Shopping Post : Great DRESSES at Jane

As promised, here is the second instalment in the series - what's in the stores this new season? I visited Jane Norman and they have some great dresses, sometimes after the festive season, it can be hard to find great dresses, it seems that the ones in the shops are always too casual or too sparkly (left over from xmas) at Jane I was pleasantly surprised to find a great variety, there are some delicate, pretty options, some super sparkly ones, traditional bodycons, which I'm no longer too keen on but ppl keep loving, and lots of different colour options!

Check out some photos which I snapped of some of my fave spotted items :

Visit the sale on both in Sliema and Valletta! P.S. Follow Jane Norman on facebook -  Jane Norman. The store can be found in both Sliema and Valletta in Malta.

Shopping Post : Last Few Days of Sale at O'hea Opticians

This weekend if you'e out and about head on down to O'hea Opticians to grab some serious bargains at the end of their Winter Sale. I'm particularly liking these DSQUARED ultra cool shades and specs below! DSQUARED is one of my favourite fashion brands, it's managed to remain cool and avoid the commercial pitfalls many other brands often get trapped by.

For further information contact O'hea Opticians on 21 315590 and you can also follow them on Facebook and visit their store at 191, The Strand, GZR1016 Il- Gzira, Malta.

Beauty Post : Classics Review PUPA Mascara and Eyeliner

Today I decided to conduct a 2-in-1 review. The most basic of all make-up is probably black eye-liner and black mascara, a lot of women consider these two to be the bare essentials; this means they are the most use products so it's important for the products you choose to use to be of a high quality.

1. Mascara

The usual things we look for in mascara are

  • lash length enhancement
  • lash volume increase
  • colour pay-off
  • product doesn't run
  • product doesn't clump

Product - PUPA VAMP Mascara

Even if you haven't use his mascara, you've probably heard of it; it's very, very popular.

Review

Three coats were applied to back and front of upper lashes and one coat was applied to bottom lashes.

  • lash length enhancement - There was a visible increase in length of lashes; lashes looked significantly longer, separated and defined -   9/10
  • lash volume increase - There wasn't a huge volume increase although individual lashes looked thicker there isn't a volume increase per se - 6/10
  • colour pay-off - Colour is a very nice shade of intense black. - 10/10
  • product doesn't run - After 4 hours there has been no running of product. - 10/10
  • product doesn't clump - Whilst applying the product there was some initial clumping but this was easily corrected using the brush  - 7/10
Overall Score - 8.4/10 - Definitely a Winning Score. I'm pleased with this mascara and will probably repurchase once it is used up.

1. Eye Pencil

The usual things we look for in an eye pencil are

  • ease of application
  • colour pay-off
  • product doesn't run
  • smooth texture
  • ability to draw both thick and thin lines

Product :  PUPA MADE TO LAST EYES - Automatic Eye Pencil

Review

One coat was applied.

  • ease of application - Relatively easy to apply, product glides on smoothly and since it has an automatic sharpening mechanism, there's no need to worry about sharpening it   -   9/10
  • colour pay-off - Colour is a nice shade of intense black. - 10/10
  • product doesn't run - After 4 hours there has been no running of product and product is waterproof - 10/10
  • smooth texture - Product glides on smoothly and therefore the resulting finish is very smooth and no bumps in sight  - 10/10
  • ability to draw both thick and thin lines - I initially tried drawing a thin line but I fond this a bit difficult, mid-to thick lines will generally be achieved whilst using this product - 6/10
Overall Score - 9/10 - Another Winning Score. I'm ultra pleased with this eye pencil and it has made it into my everyday makeup bag.

Final Look

Outfit Post : Vintage in a Monastery & Library

I know I've probably bored you with Vienna related outfit posts - this is the last I promise and then I'll start posting the Paris ones :) This was a very interesting day which started with a visit to an very old monastery, included a trip on a lake in an underground mine and ended with a trip to the Library, one of the nicest libraries I've ever seen.

People who know me well know I am a reader, an obsessive reader, I devour books and let them consume me; reading a good book is probably the thing I enjoy doing most, one of the few things that really absorbs and relaxes me. When I read that the Austrian National Library is partly open to the public an is a beautiful building, I was determined to visit it but finding this building was actually more difficult that I thought it'd be since there are actually different buildings and entrances and only one is open to tourists. However, we found it finally and whilst there, I decided to snap some studious looking outfit pics.

Photos by Kurt Paris

These first two pics were taken at the monastery..

And the Library ...That day's outfit was a bit of a crazy one .... probably the fact that the sun was shining and it wasn't as freezing meant I got a bit inspired to have some fashion mix up fun.

However..I did really like the combination of the darker maroon colours teamed with leopard and bright green.... my bonnet actually belonged to my mother when she was about 16 and it's so warm and cute!

I've been using this Coccinelle bag non stop ever since I got it ..the size is perfect and it's lightweight and a cross body style so your hands and arms are still free
Hat and Top : Vintage
Shoes : Aldo
Skirt : Zara
Bag : Coccinelle

Shopping Post : Some Bright Leather at Coccinelle - S/S 14

The sun is shining today and although it is still presently a bit cold, the beauty of Maltese weather is such that we know Spring weather is only a couple of months away; at most. This means that we can start looking at Spring Accessories without feeling like freaks. At Coccinelle some of the new stock has already started trickling into the store and it's beautiful...the classics in bright colours are there, along with new styles in perfect colour and pattern combinations! Time to update the bag wardrobe for summer me thinks!

Check out some pics below:

Fringe details are such a major trend for next season!

LOVE LOVE this colour combination

I want to wear these bags together - I do really, well I have a lot of stuff...

So cute!! Pouches have really been a hit this year, both to be used alone or inside larger bags.

Bright Colours ! Spring ! Summer ! Soon !

If you love bags as much as I do go and check out their store in Tower Road Sliema, right next to Solaris and you might want to give their facebook page a look.

Random Post : Car Breakdown and Paris

This morning I had a minor meltdown - maybe minor isn't the correct adjective..my steering wheel locked and the car was unable to turn in the right direction, this in itself was scary enough and was already causing the start of a meltdown but after inquiries I found out I might have to be car-less for a few weeks...and then the meltdown got worse...In hindsight I am the first to acknowledge this as being irrational...we don't have the best public transport system in Malta, but we have one; buses exist...I also have a network of family and friends who would give me lifts but it just shows how much my car means to me..how much I feel my life revolves around it, how important I perceive 'being able to journey from place to place in as little a time as possible' to be.

When I travel on the other hand I never want to rent a car..I see it as largely useless especially if I travel to cities..but most places have trains...and trains I love more than cars..they get you there even faster with no traffic and no parking hassles...can we get a metro system in Malta? Please?

As some of you might know, I recently got older and reached the big  3 0....I escaped and ran off to Paris to ensure I am somewhere where it will be impossible to feel sad - and it worked! 8 glorious days in Paris - fun, art, culture, fashion, shopping, food and Disney and I feel re-energised and very inspired. As far as fashion is concerned..I feel that Paris is truly unsurpassed both in terms of the person on the street, in terms of the up and coming local talent and of course the big names.

I traveled to Paris with my darling hubby Kurt Paris who truly made me feel like a little princess..he also had his camera handy so here are some of my fave pics which he snapped.....some outfit posts to follow along with lots of planned exhibition and designer review posts :)

Shopping & Trends Post : It's a Blue New Season at Oasis

For 2014 I've decided to start a series of touring different stores, snapping photos and picking out rends across the collections, these will include both stores that are regular sponsors to this blog and those that aren't but have noteworthy items in their collection. I'm going to try and make this posts at least a once weekly occasion :) For the first post I've started with Oasis.

I popped by Oasis last week to take a look at the new stock and there's some yummy, yummy stuff. One of the colours that's really making an appearance in the upcoming seasonal collections across different stores, is the colour blue...different shades of blue..from bright cobalt blues to the darker shades of teal..it seems like the blue family has coming into some fame!

To be fair blue was in fact one of the hottest colours on the catwalk last September (SS 14 Shows) but not all trends end up  making it off the catwalk and onto the high street - this seems to be a popular one though!

Check out some photos below - lots of patterns to play around with too - stripes, floral, lace motifs...

I'm also developing a thing for the colours blue and grey paired together - oh and this skirt is adorable, so cute!

Remember that Oasis Stores are at Tower Road Sliema & Zachary Street Valletta and do check out and LIKE their Facebook

Shopping Post : What your Valentine Really Wants

The other day, I was speaking to some of my girlfriends and we got talking about the approaching Valentine's Day; interestingly enough it seems like the rate of women receiving unwanted gifts that they don't have the heart to exchange is alarmingly high. Others also lamented the fact that they never get anything more original than a box of chocolates and/or flowers. Sooo, apparently the men folk need some direction for Valentine...maybe a little nudge to think outside the box and go for something which will be a bit more appreciated.

I decided I need to give the menfolk a helping hand and here it is; for this post, I collaborated with Armani Jeans and Tommy Hilfiger both at Baystreet and chose my top 5 Valentine's Day Gifts from each of these stores. Both these stores are open till 10 p.m. and also on Sunday, so they're super great for those really busy men; otherwise read as NO EXCUSES!

So as you can see from the pic above I've chosen  5 different items:

  •  A classic trench coat, every woman needs a beautiful, classically cut, trench coat; ideally in a nude shade so it can be worn with anything and everything.
  • A colourful everyday bag for Spring; this PVC, fun bag is easily cleaned, not delicate and can work really well as an everyday bag.
  • A scarf, women can never have enough scarves so this is an easy one, pick a bright colour for Spring.
  • A patterned, elegant blouse, since Spring and Maltese hot weather is just around the corner, it's time to think about loose fitting, slink bright tops; we'll soon be putting away the blacks.
  • For those men whose Valentine truly loves fashion this orange blazer is a true  statement piece - guaranteed to garner lots of hugs and kisses.

Some close-up pics

Again, as before I've chosen  5 different items:

  •  A lovely tote bag in a muted, bright coral
  • Lime jeans are set to be one of the hottest things this new season...it is essential hat they fit well , so a well tailored pair is necessary.
  • As I mentioned before, you can't go wrong with a scarf; this one is particularly lovely.
  • A super-cute, floral, shift dress that melted my heart, for all those ladies that love sweet, pretty things.
  • For those ladies that love sweet, pretty things but hate dresses, there are also trousers in the same pattern! Slinky, comfy, loose fitting, trousers!

Some close-up pics

Good Luck Men!

P.S. In Malta, Tommy Hilfiger Stores can be found in Baystreet Shopping Complex Paceville and also in Valletta. Armani Jeans Stores can be found at The Point and also at Baystreet.
