Week 3 - PLAN H

Last Week

So the good news is that I've lost about 2.5 kilos and about an inch and a half off my hips and thighs. The bad news is that today I woke up feeling very guilty because last night I slipped up, I was at a lovely party courtesy of Mercedez-Benz Malta Fashion Week, I said no thank you nearly all through up to the very end but after being offered delicious-looking ice-cream 5 times in a row I caved and then I also ate bread, something which I had also managed to avoid the entire time.

Yesterday morning my weight was at 52.9 but today it was slightly higher at 53.3 - that makes my total weight loss in 3 1/2 weeks 2.5 kilos so although I feel horribly guilty about last night I'm still happy.

Prior to yesterday, the last week and a half had been quite successful - I did have to eat non Plan H food twice (unavoidable lunches) but both times I ordered the salad equivalent.

Breakfast Frittata

The Facts

Lots of people have been asking about the price of PLAN H and how convenient do I really find it. The convenience factor is very high, the fact that you don't need to worry about grocery shopping, counting calories if that's something you do and weighing food is a huge bonus. This week I've needed to have the food delivered early and they have been extremely accommodating.

Family Corner : Maternity Wear

Since I've never been pregnant myself, as I mentioned in this first post - which touched on the subject of maternity wear - my experience and knowledge is limited to what I've read and heard. From what I can make out however, dressing yourself when heavily pregnant is no mean task, especially in Malta - apparently here, the choice is really really limited.

I think when you're pregnant, although comfort is of the utmost importance, looking and feeling good, can help you deal with your body changes a bit better. Every pregnancy is different, whilst some women battle water retention and high growth early within the term, others experience very little changes such that they actually get annoyed that as they put it 'they might look fat, not pregnant'.

None the less, whilst the point at which it happens might differ, every pregnant women tends to grow to a size that requires maternity clothes. In Malta, two of my favourite shops that stock maternity wear are Kiabi and Debenhams - the former has a range of perfect essentials that are really designed with comfort in mind, the latter have such cute and pretty things, it's not the first time I've picked up something for myself without realising.

One of the best wardrobe decisions you can make throughout this period, is to stick to a capsule wardrobe. There's no point in investing in too many pieces that you will only wear for a short period of time. Try and buy a small number of things that can be mixed and matched to create different outfits.

An ideal capsule wardrobe might consist of a pair of black trousers that look somewhat smart a couple of smart tops that have good stretching properties, a nice pair of jeans and some nice cardigans , especially the waterfall kind.

It might also be a good idea to include one nice black dress (or dark blue if you hate wearing black to occasions), some different coloured polo necks if it's winter time and possibly a couple of jackets. If it's winter you might need a coat too. It might be the case that your own coats and jackets carry you well into nearly the end of your pregnancy so it does depend at what point in the year your term will end.

If you're a fashion / clothes lover I also strongly suggest buying a few 'trendy' pieces to keep you happy - something like this adorable skater dress that's actually on sale  or this vintage inspired dress at modcloth

Random Post : Handbag Organisers

One of the things I hate most is hunting for stuff in my large bags - whatever I'm looking for, somehow, always seems to be right at the bottom, which means it takes me ages to find it. Changing around large handbags is also a nightmare as it involves transferring all the various items from one bag to another. I could of course buy more compartmental or smaller bags or always use the same handbag but what's the fun in that.

I was happy to discover organiser bags - the first brad I cam across is Tintamar - sold at various online stores and at Porto in MaltaThey exist in various sizes and fabrics and colours and have all these handy pouches and zips so you can store items of different sizes in different parts of it. It also means that when changing bag, all that it involves is transferring the organiser from one bag to another - brillaint right? They're priced between 30 - 40 euros depending on the size and colour.

I didn't actually buy one of the Tintamar ones, I kept meaning to but I was being a bit miserly about spending 40 euros on a bag that goes inside another bag, so I decided to run an ebay search. I found the following listing selling for less than 3 euros:  Handbag Organiser.  I bought it and it's absolutely great - not of as high a quality as the Tintamar ones but it doesn't feel that cheap either. It has different compartments, some zipped, some open and fits all my stuff really well.

Changing my bag in the morning has now become a piece of cake :D. You might want to invest in one of these organisers....let me know if you do...

Urban Travel : In the Fitting Room Vol 2

As I mentioned last week, as the Urban Travel collaboration with #MEXX now comes to an end, I decided to end with something a bit different for 2015 - I'm taking you with me into the changing / fitting / dressing room !!

Whenever I'm shopping, the thing I hate most is 'trying on' and there are times when I break one of my own rules and simply skip that part. However, when I do enter, sometimes I'll decide instantly, other times I'll spend about 10 minutes craning my neck trying to see whether or not my bum looks big.

Last week I chose a long, casual, sweater dress that's a bit fitted. This week I've changed tune completely and I've migrated into a woolly, casual, chunky cardigan that hides all your sins. The great thing about this cardigan sweater is that you can wear it EVERYWHERE - to work, out shopping, to the cinema, to a friend's house...& you can wear it with many different colours -  black, denim, white, purple, navy. I also chose a black leather clutch bag that's really stylish.

The best part - MEXX is on sale now !!

Urban Travel : In the Fitting Room

As the Urban Travel collaboration with #MEXX draws to a close I've decided to end with something a bit different. For these last two installments, I'm taking you with me into the changing / fitting / dressing room.

I know I'm not alone, it's not the first time I've seen people snap pictures in changing rooms, trying to see angles their bodies don't allow them to see or even sending pics to other people to get second opinions.

For this post, I chose a long casual sweater dress that's a bit fitted, this is something I would want to try on and also something I would obsess over, as to whether or not I look bigger in it. I shot a series of selfies that I would take, had I needed that second opinion.

I also chose a bag and amazing pair of gloves that I would wear it with.

Outfit Post : Christmas Day

As I've discussed in the What To Wear on Christmas Day post, the Christmas Day outfit is never an easy one - what with lots of running around from family to family, to grandparents, to friends and just general movement from place to place plus some places might require more of a 'dressed up' look, others a more casual..it's a hard one to figure out. I had a number of different people to visit so something somewhat comfortable was a must, I decided to go for a monochrome look, somewhat classical yet still fun (at least fun for me) and comfortable..notice no heels in sight.

Interview Post : Model Claire Ciantar

Claire Ciantar is currently one of Malta's hottest models - she has recently both won the Malta Fashion Awards Best Model Award and also been selected by Ferramoda to represent them at the New Model Today Gran Gala de la Mode competition in Riccione next week. Standing at almost 6 feet tall with legs that go on for miles and enviable looks to boost, Claire is definitely one to watch.

Claire recently also modelled in a photoshoot for Ferragiu shot by Kurt Paris (a new luxury designer couture brand that will be launched at Riccione) - below.

Let's get to know Claire a bit better:)

Who is Claire ?
I am 18 years old and a university student studying communications and European studies. I consider myself to be an honest and a very positive person, I try my best to be very professional in all I do. Apart from modelling, I  also love singing and sports. In fact I'm also a basketball and tennis player.

How did you get into modelling ?
Pure coincidence! I was scouted by my fashion mummy Marisa Grima of Supernova model . She spotted me on Facebook and it all began from there, that same year (2012) I won the Supernova Competition and modelled at The Clothes Show Live in Birmingham.

Has your life changed a lot, what about your personal style ?
Yes it has changed in a lot of ways, to be honest, time is very limited nowadays as modelling and sport plus all the studying takes a huge chunk of my time. Naturally even my lifestyle had to adjust with all the activity around me. But what is most important to me is that I remain with my feet well planted on the ground and that I never change who I am. I definitely want to remain the same person people around me have grown to love and respect.

My style has also changed a lot - I went from being plain jane to a risk taker when it comes to clothes! I love creating my own style, one that brings out my personality and I also learned not to care what other people think as much and and just be comfortable in my own style. I love fashion and I try to keep myself updated with new trends and styles and adjust them to my own liking.

Favourite top model ?
My favourite top model has to be Cara Delevigne, how can you not love Cara ?!! She's a tomboy with an impeccable taste in clothes, she eats and loves bacon like normal people. She knows how to have fun and isn't always serious, from photos of her in baths of beans to beanie hats she really shows us her true character. She has modelled for many big brands like Chanel, Victoria Secrete, Tom Ford, Mulberry, Yves Saint Laurent, Burberry, the list is never ending ! Recently I also found out that she knows how to sing too, so that makes me like her even more !

Dreams and ambitions ?
My first objective is to graduate from university as i think it is of utmost importance that I finish my education and secure my future. In the meantime I aim to continue progressing in modelling hoping that one day I can achieve my dream of modelling for prestigious brands. I am also adamant to continue practicing my favourite sport 0 basketball. I have already represented Malta in two tournaments and I'm hoping Ill have more opportunities to wear the national kit in the future.

Outfit Post : Roaming Around Rome

You might remember around a month ago I went to Rome and ALTARoma..I posted photos of what I wore to the events but I took my time with the general roaming around Rome daily outfits ..sorry..I've been trying to work a little less in August as I was feeling a little burnt out and needed some general rest.

But here's a 2-in-1 special :D. When on holiday my main priority is always comfort and the ability to walk walk walk and did I mention walk ? This trip in particular involved an immense amount of walking so I took up my most comfortable pair of sandals - Ecco sandals (King Shoe Shop Malta, similar in style to Birkenstocks - more of the whole ugly sandal trend) but the special thing about these shoes is that they allow for custom orthotics insoles to fit in place of the original footbed.

This day was a Sunday and I spent it shopping around the Spanish Steps area, visiting the Andy Warhol exhibition and just simply enjoying Rome...it was a bit rainy unfortunately but oh well.
