Monthly Nails Inspiration : Blue & Grey

Blue and grey aren't always the most likely colour team but they actually make a very good team. This particular vibrant shade of dark blue paired with a simple grey sets the tone for Autumn and the approaching Winter. As per usual the brilliant Christina at Femme Beauty did the job.

Blue and grey are actually really popular this season for clothes, accessories and shoes.

Here's a mood clothing board with some of my favourite blue and grey picks.

  1. River Island FUR vegan leather jacket, - I love love love this fur jacket, vegan means high quality non-leather type of material. I can see this over jeans, over black leather trousers, over a skirt, over everything really.
  2.   - converse remain the 'cool kids shoes', these in particular are are a really great shade., a denim jacket is a winter staple.
  3. Batman Sweater - well there's nothing much to say other than..these rules.
  4. Denim Jacket - A denim jacket is a staple, if you don't already have one, invest in one and wear over everything. If you already have one, you might prefer this purple one
  5. Blue skirt - big, flouncy skirts are a thing this season, wear them with tough biker boots like these so as to avoid looking like a fairy or a ballerina.
  6.  Long sweater top- a basic everyone needs.

grey and blue
And for my final blue pick - these brilliant riding boots from ALDO that are part of my 30% off collaboration - last few days left !

Events Post : LFW : Jasper Conran SS15

This show was a highlight, both because it featured some lovely, highly wearable pieces but also because I got to sit in the front row which gave me a perfect view and the ability to take some pics. Jasper Conran is a long-time established designer, one of the original masters of the craft.

Slinky, loose materials, cuts that don't cling to any part of the body, patterns and a feeling of careless sophistication are the words I use to describe Jasper Conran's collection. Patterns resembling paint splatters further evoking this careless feeling that seems to describe freedom was a predominant feature even on the invite. There were also lots of geometric patterns and grids and stripes.

OUTFIT POST : MERCEDEZ-BENZ FASHION WEEK MALTA - DAY 6 - LACE, WANG, QUEENS & CUSTOMISED JEWELLERY

Day 6 and another outfit - this time one worthy of the beautiful Maltese National Library. Books, books, everywhere - seriously impressive building!

For this day, I wished an outfit that is classical and elegant but at the same time still me and therefore a bit 'different'. I recently bought a leopard, fitted midi skirt from Warehouse that I thought was perfect and I also had a beautiful, new lace top from M&Co in valletta (this is NOT the same store as Max&Co that I spoke about yesterday, I must have said that about 10 times last night so thought I'd clarify in advance - M&Co is the store that replaced the old BHS in Valletta).

I also took my Alexander McQueen jacket out to play andddd a customised piece of jewellery by the lovely Yana from Yana's jewellery - she made it especially to go with this outfit and it really lent a stunning effect.

I then decided that my Alexander wang bag and these blue laser cut shoes I purchased in Istanbul completed the look perfectly and off I went.

Outfit Details

Skirt : Warehouse
Top : M and Co (Valletta)
Blazer : Alexander McQueen
Necklace : Yana's jewellery

Beauty Post : KIKO Blue Mascara & PUPA Navy Chic Palette

In a previous post I mentioned how blue make up has taken over this summer - I know a lot of you have horrible images of that powder blue eye-shadow look with pink blush and pink lipstick from the 80's but this time round it's different, more subtle, more blended, and the idea is for there to be hints of blue rather than all-over-the-eye bright blue eye shadow. Also we're no longer pairing it with bright pink cheeks and lips.

PUPA Malta sent me the VAMP! COMPACT EYESHADOW PALETTE from the COLLECTION NAVY CHIC (colour code 003). You can see the different colours in the palette in the photo above.

I've been using this palette quite often, in the first photo above there are two different looks , in the leftmost photo it's white and dark blue colours blended with a bit of brown worn with blue mascara, in the rightmost photo it's the white and light blue worn with the blue eye liner from this collection that I reviewed here.

The quality of the eye shadow is great, doesn't crumble, is easy to blend and is long lasting (however I always wear it over an eye shadow base). I love the mix of colours, it makes it really easy to create either an intense dark blue colour or something more subtle and low key blended with brown.

Now onto the blue mascara, as mentioned here, coloured mascara is my thing of late and in this photo below you can see my sky blue mascara. I've also got green, berry, and purple - the problem with coloured mascaras generally is that he colour doesn't show up properly. This particular blue one is by KIKO and the pigment is awesome one of the most pigmented coloured mascara I've ever seen but unfortunately it is a bit clumpy so I don't rate it too highly and am on the lookout for a better brand with just as much pigment.

Beauty Post : PUPA Blue Eyeliner - NAVY CHIC

First of all let me start by saying..if you haven't realised already the current trend in makeup is blue, blue blue blue...this is NOT the horrible all over-eye-blue eye shadow look from the 80s but a nicer subtle mix of different shades of blue to make the yes pop...don't be scared try it.

One of the most recent products sent to me for review by the lovely people at PUPA Malta was the  VAMP! PROFESSIONAL LINER Eyeliner with Ultra-Fine Brush - WATERPROOF (colour 300 - light blue) from The Spring 2014 COLLECTION NAVY CHIC.

The usual things we look for in an eye pencil are
  • ease of application
  • colour pay-off
  • product doesn't run
  • smooth texture
  • ability to draw both thick and thin lines
Review

One coat was applied.
  • ease of application - I found it easy to apply, product glided on smoothly abut some people might have trouble managing the thin brush. 8/10
  • colour pay-off - Colour is a nice shade of blue, very flattering. - 9/10
  • product doesn't run - After a whole day was no running of product, product is waterproof - 10/10
  • smooth texture - The resulting finish is very smooth, no bumps in sight  - 10/10
  • ability to draw both thick and thin lines - It is only possible to draw thin to medium lines properly since the brush is quite thin - 7/10
Overall Score - 8.8/10

Another Winning Score for PUPA - I must say their make up seems to go from strength to strength, always impresses me.
