Random : It's My Birthday !!

Since my birthday falls so close to the start of the new year, I tend to measure a year from one birthday to the next, so today is when I take a look back on all that the last year has brought, with all its highs and lows.

It''s been a good year, it's a strange word to use but somehow, looking back at it, makes me feel oddly satisfied. When I was younger, I never really cared about whether or not I felt I had accomplished anything throughout the last year. In my early twenties especially, I regarded life as just one big ball of space to have as much fun as possible in. As I hit late twenties and now, today, I've turned 31 it's as though I've had this realisation that life is kind of a precious object and as morbid as it sounds, it does eventually run out. I've had this feeling of wanting to ensure that I'm living a life worth living - at least a life worth living according to Caroline :).

Some highlights from the last year included - celebrating my 30th in Paris with the hubby, a trip to Florence with my mother, blogging for Simshar & handling International Relations for Malta Fashion Week in May, going to AltaRoma in July, lots and lots of beach time in August, the New Model Today Competition and London Fashion Week in September, Ferramoda and the launch of the Chamber of Fashion Malta and the Malta Fashion Association in November, a trip to Paris with the hubby in December and a brilliant Christmas period. And of course, there were lots of other dinners, weddings and time with friends and family but those don't relate as much to this blog.

Flick through the slideshow for a trip down my memory lane (each photo is a link to that post)

It was also an exciting year for this blog in terms of lots of brand collaborations, general growth and I've also written for many different publications, both local and international. This is where I say a BIG FAT THANK YOU to all of you for following me and reading what I have to say.

As a parting note, I'd like to finish off this 'serious' reflection post with one thing - as I get older and 'wiser', I've started to live life more for myself - I care so much less now about what person X thinks of me or why person Y seems to dislike me, than I did 5 years ago. This is my life, my appearance, my work. I refuse to care about bitchiness and whilst I really do appreciate all suggestions and constructive criticism that people pass my way, I might still decide to do things differently. Here's to another good year!

Urban Travel : Beanies and Festivities AHOY

It's beanie weather and I couldn't be happier - it's also festive season soon which means time to start sourcing those statement pieces. This high-waisted, black skirt from MEXX couldn't be more perfect.

The fit is amazing, the pattern eye catching and he colour..- well black is a 'non-colour' so it can match with sooo many different colours. I decided to mix it up a little and show how versatile it is - I paired it with a floral sheer top, a beanie, and this brilliant anorak / coat. This is a great outfit for when you want to be dressed up not too dressed up.

To make it a bit 'dressier' you could switch to a coat or cape, remove the beanie and add a pair of delicate heels.

Outfit Post : MERCEDEZ-BENZ FASHION WEEK MALTA - DAY 7 - THE MISSING GOLD LINK

You may have realised there was a missing malta fashion week outfit post last week - the last one - DAY 7 - International Designers Night. The reason for this was because since the next day was fashion awards I knew it would get lost in the crowd and this one is a little bit special as it's split in two parts - the process and the wearing. You know how I always say that I like to wear featured designers at their shows, well, last Friday, I cheated terribly, it was International Designers and instead I wore something by a local Maltese designer - Ritienne Zammit - actually I wore a catwalk look head-to-toe AND I had a partner in crime but more on that to come.....

So for the process, I visited Ritienne at her studio to choose the outfit for the night, I was impressed by how in theme with her designs the whole place is....it really felt like her character is embodied in the place, no wonder she creates such fantastic designs.

Of course there had to be Selfie time to capture my denim-on-denim - Outfit Details : All Jennyfer

And now for the outfit - I chose to wear the matching gold crop top and skirt with a brocade bodysuit worn underneath buttt I also got to wear something that Ritienne hadn't yet unveiled - THE FUR BEANIE - this is so warm and so much fun to wear. I paired the outfit with silver wedge sneakers from Aldo to complete the whole street-look concept.

The outfit is quite extreme of course - it's a catwalk look so not designed to be worn to an everyday occasion as is, but for the night it was a whole load of fun and definitely got Ritienne's clothes some attention. The way to transport these clothes to a wardrobe would be to buy the individual pieces and wear them with more 'normal-looking' pieces..e.g. the crop top/bodysuit with a black leather skit.

And for my matching partner in crime - Daniel from Devil Wears Praduh also wore Ritienne's catwalk look :)

with Marisa Grima and Robert Galea
The biggest problem of the night though was the fact that it was freezing, really really cold and infact I only lasted a grand total of 15 minutes, after which a sweater came on..luckily it happened to be maroon.

OUTFIT POST : MALTA FASHION AWARDS - A DRESS & THE PIECE-OF-ART SHOES

Last Saturday the Malta Fashion Awards happened and of course in terms of getting dressed up and our wardrobes, for a lot of us, the day marks one of the biggest nights of the year. In my case, the night was very complicated - I was working backstage (the sufferance of a fashion stylist) and for such a big and long event that means coordinating what was going on and making sure the models get ready etc which ultimately means waaaay too much running and walking around. I was also nominated for two awards which meant I needed to walk the red carpet at the start of the show and also be on standby when the winners of those categories were announced. It honestly felt like I needed to be in two places, in different clothes at the same time.

On my last trip to the UK I had encountered a British design house JOLABY and bought a beautiful dress from them. I also recently bought a really interesting pair of shoes (you may recall a facebook status about them and them being called a piece-of-art) and the two came together for the night along with a pair of vintage earrings.

I must admit - the shoes came off my feet to be replaced by trusty Birkenstocks, at some points throughout the evening but the dress was super comfortable. My hair and makeup was done on site by the awards team - hair by Mario Muscat, make up by Terry under Elaine Galea's supervision.

I didn't get to see much of the show but it felt like we pulled off an amazing night and everyone seemed impressed - a note of celebration is that the hubby, Kurt Paris, the one who takes 3/4 of the photos on this blog took home Best Fashion Photographer of the year...wohoooooo.

Interview : Daniela Spiteri - Face of Malta Fashion Week 2014

Shot by world renowned fashion photographer Alan Gelati wearing Charles&Ron

This week we shine the spotlight on a local beauty and the face of Mercedez Benz Malta Fashion Week  (24th - 30th May), Maltese model Daniela Spiteri (supernovamodel.com). Daniela is absolutely beautiful, long limbed, tall and with a perfect body, she transforms the clothing she wears into something surreal. She is very photogenic and knows exactly how to use her body to its full advantage, she is also a lovely friendly person who I love chatting to whilst on shoots.

I present to you Daniela...in her own words...
So, who is Daniela?
Well Daniela is a nineteen year old girl who is always looking for new experiences. I study child care at MCAST and I aspire to be a Kindergarten teacher in the future. I'm a person that looks at life in a positive way and working with children is perfect for me as with children there is never a dull moment.

When did your interest in modelling first begin? Were you scouted or did something happen?
I was really young when I first started to get interested in modeling. I remember entering a particular modeling competition for a local magazine and I did quite well. Afterwards, my interest faded for some time until I came across a Venere application and decided to apply. My mother and friends really pushed me into applying. After a photo shoot test of the applicants I was chosen as one of the models. During Verene I met Marisa and from there on I started to work also on fashion shows and not solely on photo modeling.

What inspires you? Is there anyone or anything that you feel has influenced your modeling style?
Personally I don't look up to any personality so no one has influenced me. I enjoy being myself when modeling and working with my own style. Although I enjoy being myself, modeling does include some acting when it comes to expressions and poses and I enjoy this as this provides me with a challenge.

You were recently selected to be the face of Malta Fashion Week 2014 …how do you feel about that?
I really wasn't expecting this. At first, when I heard the news I was really stunned and obviously extremely happy. This is very high achievement for me and I feel honoured to represent the Maltese fashion scene for 2014.

Tell us about the different magazine and campaigns you have been part of
I had the opportunity to appear in various local fashion magazines such as Pink and Vida.
Left - Pink shot by Kurt Paris, Right - Vida shot by Nicky Scicluna

Another achievement which I’m quite proud of is the l’oreal business forum. This show wasn’t a mere fashion show; it involved a lot of time practising a choreography for the show. It was an amazing experience and I hope I will have similar opportunities in the future.
Would you call yourself a fashionable girl in real life? How would you describe your style?
Obviously, I try to be as fashionable as possible, however I prefer to wear clothes that suit me rather than following trends. Even though some clothes may be fashionable, they may not always be appropriate for my figure and style. Trying to be fashionable in everyday life is very hard, especially when you have to work with kids. I try to avoid dark colours as much as possible and I love to wear boots like dr martens and timberlands.

Million dollar question – what’s your secret to your enviable perfect figure?
This is a funny question to ask me, I don't really watch what I eat. I'm not too keen on healthy eating and this has been the case since I was very young. There is no secret diet, just exercise every day.

Do you have a few images you can share with us? Favourite photo ?

One of my first photoshoots ever - for Venere - still one of my favourites and another recent one both shot by shot by Bernard Polidano.

Excited for fashion week?
Yes a lot, more than previous years. This year will be a special fashion week for me. Few models had the opportunity to be the face of the Malta fashion week, lucky for me I have the opportunity to represent the Malta fashion week this year. I Hope everything will goes as planned and the 2014 Malta fashion week will be a success like past editions.

Shopping Post : Hitting Armani Jeans at The Point

First of all some interesting news, over the next few months I am going to be collaborating with Armani Jeans Malta which is just super duper because I really love the brand; they have such stylish clothes! I decided to hang around the store at the Point yesterday evening and check out their new collection and I decided that for this week's edition of 'Caroline hits a store and shows you their new stock'  we have -  Armani Jeans at the Point.

*Interesting Fact - did you know that Armani Jeans Baystreet and Armani Jeans, The Point do not necessarily stock the same things?*

The store at the Point is located on the topmost level of the mall and I really like the way it's styled, with a TV showing related commercials/shows, different stands and shelving positioned throughout the shop and just a really nice vibe without any pretentious or formal airs. Although I'm right at home in a bazaar-dig-through-mountains-of-stuff-kind-of shop, sometimes it's just really nice to be in a really nice shop.

So right about NOW is definitely the right time to check out some pics of the store and their latest stock that I slaved over for hours and hours and hours....

Because women are more important..and must always come first....the first pics are of course of womenswear

Some nice colours!
Nautical stripes are always around in Spring and Summer aren't they?
The faded ones in the middle are tugging at my willpower ..hmmm..

BELOW : ONLY FOR MEN - NO WOMEN ALLOWED

Really like the colour of these jeans

This season it's all about trainers and sneakers, loving the colour on these ones.
Just about every colour of polo shirt you could possibly wish for.

In case you want more Armani Jeans or just like the brand you can follow them on their facebook page here
