Outfit Post : Twisted Bride and Different Shoes

Yesterday's outfit was my version of a  twist on a bridal outfit - all the elements are there - something shiny, sequins, white and cream and something covering my hair :D. I couldn't decide between wearing my new heeled Birkenstocks or this New Silver Rubber Heels I found in Primark last September and never got round to wearing. I decided to simply wear both, and switch to and fro between them. I also grunged my hair using that sea salt spray I h

The great thing about this outfit is that it's insanely comfortable and since yesterday was a very long day including two Malta Fashion Week shows and Mother's Day Lunch, some sort of comfort was a must.

I haven't really been managing to write up all my outfit posts, street style spotting and fashion show reviews in real time. I've simply had too many places to go and well at least 5 hours sleep is sort of necessary... but all will be told in the coming weeks - not to worry. In the meantime, for today, here's the first outfit I wore on my first day in Milan, decided to take a bit of Malta Fashion with me :)

Outfit Post : At Alta Roma Day 1

This weekend was mostly spent indoors - the hubby has a nasty case of food poisoning and all my countless weekend plans went straight into the 'rubbish bin'. However, last weekend was a brilliant one - I spent it in Rome for AltaRoma, watching beautiful haute-couture, AltaModa fashion, eating too much food, shopping (any doubt ?) and meeting with the other members of the Chamber of Fashion Malta to discuss upcoming projects.

Here's what I wore on Day 1 - first of all it was freezing - freezing and fashion don't go well together, and then to make matters worse, inside the show locations was of course, heated and hot and stuffy. It's also impossible not to need to walk, even if you use taxis, you need to walk to the taxi stand and Rome is full of cobbles, some broken....I think if I lived in Rome I'd retire all my heels...

Below and Above - at the show in the Alta Roma official show tent.

Back onto the streets.................I'm in love with this Enrico Coveri coat - a very recent birthday present from the parents - in Rome I realised it's also very, very warm since it's made of 100% wool.

Thank the heavens for sneakers / trainers and their current return into the fashion world.

Because it was so cold I ended up wearing two pairs of thermal tights and socks on top of each other - my walk felt a tad bit restricted..

Black Poloneck : Zara

Outfit Post : Xmas in Paris

A couple of weeks ago  the hubby and I went to Paris for a few days of walking, fun, Christmas markets and beautiful food. A couple of snapshots and what I wore - starting off with this black combo - that day was absolutely freezing and the hubby bought me this beautiful cape to wear over the jacket I was already wearing.

Sneakers, sneakers, sneakers - the sneakers craze isn't as rampant in Paris as London but I still spotted quite a few Parisians and tourists wearing sneakers under 'everything' - from suits (men) to dresses to jeans. Always happy to participate in this sneaker craze, I spent literally a whole day walking in these babies below (Laura Biagiotti from Stivaletti) and my feet were actually still happy when I went to bed.

Outfit 2 ..........Furry hats, scarf, coat .. according to the hubby I looked like a coloured snowman.. This hat is way too big for my face ...it kept falling down and covering my eyes which apparently is very amusing.............

The pink monster behind me is Laffayette's window display, their whole Christmas campaign is based around Noel the pink Xmas Monster ..and their window displays include puppet shows, moving monsters - simply awesome.

I simply love Paris..there's something about that city that's at once magical, inspiring and energetic...it's also simply put - beautiful...

Urban Travel : a Dog & a Tooth UNDERCOVER

Going undercover is one tough job and that's where a big oversized coat that you can bury yourself in comes in handy. A big scarf that can also hide half your face lends a hand and then of course there's the idea of a big hat, wear it with the brim down for extra cover.

Strictly speaking for going undercover, this brilliant dog-tooth / houndstooth coat from MEXX might be tad bit too eye catching, maybe it might be more ideal to wear for a night out to party or two. Photos by Kurt Paris

Trends Post : Autumn Layers

autumn layering

Someone recently pointed out that it's been a while since I've collaged a few outfits together and they're right - no specific reason - just something I stopped doing.  I've been feeling more inclined lately and when ModCloth approached me and asked me to showcase their autumn layers I decided to hop back on the bandwagon.

The outfit in hand uses a blanket-style cardigan as its centerpiece. You can't have missed seeing a photo or 600 of Olivia Palermo / Cara Delevigne / Famous Woman X wearing the Burberry blanket with their initials monogrammed. If you're rich and famous you can get one of those for $1,395 - if you're a humble being you might have to look elsewhere.

This particular folk-inspired blanket-style cardigan has a brilliant pattern and colour combo. I've decided to team it with with a mustard cowl neck top and a denim shirt that I plan on wearing unbuttoned, the cowl neck top is actually a thin cardigan but I like it worn as a base layer. Since in my fuddled thoughts Autumn needs a hat and gloves, I couldn't resist adding a touch of vintage to clash with my folk.

Wear this outfit  with jeans and booties for a day out in a park / garden / walk around / a day out shopping or even to work if the dress code is casual.

If you're not familiar with ModCloth you might be worth checking them out,  they have an amazing selection of cardigans at the moment. it caters for all sizes and has lots of vintage inspired & quirky pieces - plus you can even shop by decade. They curate their clothes from different retailers as well as having their own private label. I actually found out about this site last year through Pretty Little Liars, since I obsessively hunt through blogs to see where their clothes are from - quite a few pieces were from ModCloth.

Any other layering ideas for Autumn ?

Interview Post : Adalia Bonanno Headpiece Artist

Ladies and gents there's a new Artisan IN TOWN. Meet Adalia Bonnanno - headpiece artist - who has been working away quietly, out of the limelight but has managed to build up quite a reputation and client list. Her hats were recently selected to form part of the new Maltese luxury brand Ferragiu which was launched in Riccione earlier this month and she was also just given the opportunity to create a headpiece for Kate Middleton herself, to be presented to her during her planned visit to Malta last week.

Adalia started out within the fashion industry as a catwalk model, she modelled in various fashion shows over the years and has always had a love for fashion. Although I knew about her work, I saw her first hat with my own eyes in Riccione modelled by Claire Ciantar. The hat is really well made and very beautiful.

As those of you who check in here regularly would know, I happen to lurveeee headpieces and hats, I do, I do, I do... soooooo I decided to meet up with Adalia and ask her a couple of questions

How did you first begin ?
It all happened in 2008, at this particular photo shoot for a calendar; the dress the setting, everything seemed like it was not quite enough and I had suggested creating a striking headpiece for the model to wear..and my love for this art evolved from that moment on. However, well and truly, it was only at the beginning of 2014 that I decided to actually take it more seriously and focus more on bespoke headpieces for special occasions such as weddings, holy communions and Fashion events.

Where did you learn ?
I'm actually mainly self thought but I've also enrolled in various online Milliner Academics and even travelled abroad for interactive tutorials; Malta unfortunately does not as yet have any kind of Millinery training. I have a lot of love for fabric manipulation and new innovative techniques and I love working with a variety of different materials and tools. Also, every time I travel I make sure to visit Milliners' studios and hat shops to check out any new interesting techniques they might be using.

What's the process like ?
Once I get the materials, trimmings and fabric in hand, I immediately become inspired and spend hours in my workshop until I am happy with the result. I am a perfectionist, so attention to detail is essential.

So..on to the juicy bit.. this gift for Kate Middleton - tell us something more

I created a bespoke headpiece as a gift to her Royal Highness, Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Malta's Independence which was meant to be her first visit to Malta. This was ultimately given directly to the Royal staff during Prince William's visit who took his wife's place at the very last minute. It was suggested that the piece should be Malta-themed in some way so I chose white and ivory and added a touch of red to complement them.

It took weeks of research and designing, hand crafting and assembling the handmade pieces together. It displays 50 pieces of small, handmade Sinamay flowers with petite Swarovski beads on top of a blocked straw pillboxed shaped base. The hat box was also fully custom made with specially selected fabric and calculated dimensions.

It would be a great honour if she had to wear this creation of mine, who knows... maybe one day she actually will. :)

Any Future Projects
Besides the regularly commissioned pieces, I will also be working on my new collection to be launched beginning of next year which will include one-off compelling statement headpieces, exquisitely crafted and encapsulating current fashion trends.

Outfit Post : At The Sarto Garden Party - Wearing a BOW with a HAT

Deciding what to wear to the SARTO daytime fashion show garden party event last week took some deliberation. My problem was twofold - I had received a brand-spanking-new monochrome HAT from Coccinelle that I desperately wanted to wear but the dress code was colourful and chic. Whilst this hat is most definitely chic, colourful it ain't. You might be thinking that I could have simply opted for lots of colour in my clothes but monochrome does not always work terribly well with lots of colour and patterns which is what I kept coming up with as options I was happy with wearing. A normal person would have simply forfeited the hat..but normality is something I've never staked a claim to.

The next problem was that I then wanted to wear a sweater...but not everyone would constitute a sweater as chic and thank god I had decided against this as when I woke up that morning it was oh so terribly hot.....

So after this back and forth deliberation over the span of a few weeks, I started building an outfit head down, I found this DKNY linen dark blue/black dress with a HUGE bow that ties at the back that I decided looked great with the hat...and for colour.....I realised I already owned the perfect accessories - a new huge red and gold necklace (also from Coccinelle) and my 30th birthday present from Paris (last January) that I had actually never taken out to play - a gorgeous MATELASSÉ MIU MIU BAG.

Outfit Post : I Would LOVE Me if I Were YOU

Last weekend, the hubby Kurt Paris, decided he wanted to shoot some model portraits in his studio, he rounded up a couple of people and off we went.

I was actually really happy with what I was wearing that day, I was wearing this new sweater that I picked up on sale from Stradivarius that I think is super cool and it has some pale pink in it !! Soo whilst the first model was getting her makeup done.we decided to have a go at shooting my outfit in the studio and I absolutely love the results...when Kurt first started out as a photographer I was his little model guinea pig, as the years progressed and his skill and expertise moved forward, he moved on to taller and better things :P...so I very rarely actually pose properly for him in the studio.. (I also suffer from very limited patience am very bad at following his instructions and therefore drive him crazy,  which might have something to do with it)...but anyway to cut a long story short... I really had fun!

The overall theme of both this shoot and outfit is FUN - there are hearts, there's pink and there's a hilarious slogan (hence the blog title) and ofc the photos are all about having fun :)
