STREET STYLE IN MALTA Vol 2 - Fashion Week Edition

Although Malta’s fashion week might not be the huge worldwide phenomena and street style stage such as the ones in London or Milan, our local fashionistas certainly know a thing or two about attending in style. The great thing about fashion weeks, in general, is that they seem to unleash a certain measure of style creativity and extract more willingness to step away from the little black dress and experiment a little bit.

I was especially pleased to see a lot of bright colours around and even some pattern mixing. Some key trends and looks which I spotted were: shorts and blazers / jackets for the guys - Malta’s climate doesn’t provide a great platform for this look so I get quite excited when I see it.

Statement jewellery - although delicate jewellery has made a recent return to the fashion world, statement jewellery is still going strong especially when it comes to necklaces. Monochrome is extremely popular again this season, my preference for summer is when a little bit of colour is injected. I also noticed a lot of T-Bar sandals cladding many feet as well as a some sneakers and interesting brogues (both male and female). Some statement and quirky bags also played guests at various events.

Outfit Post : Milan Fashion Week Day 3

The third day in Milan and I decided to wear something I had just bought the day before !! I also had my makeup done at the lovely MAC studio at Camera du Moda and my hair done on site at Schwarzkopf.

I started the day at Bvlgari, went to the Paula Cademartori preview, the Aigner Show, the Nicholas K show & the Costume National after-party (more on these last four to come) & last but not least - for an awesome Italian pizza.

London Fashion Week : B'Fast With LULU GUINNESS

Something really fun that I did at London Fashion Week is visit Lulu Guinness herself at the swanky Cafe Royal to view her new A/W 2015 Bag Collection. She's actually very much the type of person I imagined she would be - a fun personality, fun fashion style and a sense of humour. Her new bags are as delightful as always with some new fresh patterns and interesting twists.

The new pattern for the season is this wonderful artistic graphic pattern below. It's present on a variation of bags including mini bags and totes

Of course, the famous lips play a part in any collection of hers - I was really taken by the quality of the hard clutch in the first picture and this leather number below.

My personal absolute favourite style is this 'face' pattern below and I particularly love this backpack made of techno fabric. Below it are some lovely classical pieces that can carry you perfectly from morning to night.

This collection will hit stores sometime around September but you can check out her current collection on her website or here or here

Milan Fashion Week : Ermanno Scervino A/W 15/16

Attending the Ermanno Scervino A/W 15/16 fashion show in Milan was a definite highlight of my trip. This made in Italy brand is actually one of my favourites - as the designer himself says - his clothes are always feminine and well tailored, representing quality and elegance.
' I love playing with the identity of gender, never calling it into question. My woman is always feminine even when she is wearing a masculine overcoat. It can be perfect to enhance her seductiveness.'

The collection was made up of different mini sections flowing from one onto the other. It started with a few pieces representing quilting material with voluminous skirts and fitted jackets.

I was rather pleased to see the houndstooth tweed pattern make an appearance, this is a pattern that's classical but statement-making at the same time. In this collection it  was used on tailored pieces sparking with embellishments and bold red accents.

There were also military inspired pieces, again embellished with rich accents such as crystals and fur

But the definite star of the show was the beautiful royal blue pieces, this dress in particular is absolutely gorgeous.

And to end the show - luxurious gowns in organza that make you think of fairies

London Fashion Week : Jasper Conran

At Jasper Conran yesterday - the winter colours- dark navy, plum, ginger and vibrant shades of green  are both simultaneously rich and muted. The designer cites as inspiration 19th century prints from the designer Kunisada.

The collection is tailored but the actual pieces have are relaxed, loos fit - the vibe is wearable, comfortable fashion. The cashmere dresses are in my opinion the standout pieces within this collection, the patterned fabric adds an exciting twist but it's the lovely fabric that really stole my heart. There were also some exciting hats on show that added a bit of an edge to the styling.

A very wearable, luxurious collection.

Beauty Post : LABELM Styling Irons

It's Fashion Week preparation time and these little babies above are going to be one of the first things I pack !!

Sooooooo, to give a bit of context - last Christmas, after re-Keratin treating my hair, I decided to invest some of my hard-earned cash in a good pair of straighteners / styling irons. My first point of call was of course GHD - it's all anybody mentions - but then I found out that LABELM (Toni&Guy's brainchild)  had just released a brand new, swanky pair of white titanium styling irons.

Truth be told, this an expensive purchase, so I wanted to be sure my money would get me the best option, I needed to research. I set about investigating the matter.

The GHD ones are industry tried and tested and these from LABELM are still pretty new on the market so it was a bit hard to find reviews. A couple of hair stylists who had already used them in salons told me they had found them pretty nifty.

Then came the specs comparison - I LOVED the fact that the temperature setting is adjustable, something other straighteners, including ghd don't always have - my hair is pretty fine so too much unnecessary heat can really damage it and if it's just a quick iron in the morning - there's no need for too much heat.
  • The price was another favourable point - simply put - they're cheaper.
  • The white option is really clean and pretty but it also comes in a black finish
  • I love the heat mat pouch it comes with, I'm always worried I'm going to burn something.

As you've probably guessed, I ended up buying the LABELM ones, I've been really enjoying using them - the operation is really smooth, my hair never gets stuck, they heat up really quickly and oh yes - they straighten my hair pretty well too.

The only thing I don't like, is that they're big and it's a bit hard to get at my little baby hair - I've hit myself in the head a couple of times trying to achieve this. They now need to launch version 2 - a little mini one which will sit prettily right next to this one, to be picked up when its time to get at those little 'uns.
