Events : AltaRoma : Antonella Rossi

One of my favourite shows at AltaRoma was Antonella Rossi Haute Couture - a collection inspired from Dante Alighieri 'La Divina Commedia' - designed by Giulia Mori. The imagined love of Dante for Beatrice, the sublime "... love that moves the sun and the other stars".

Love and femininity were the two main elements of this collection. In this new Spring Summer Haute Couture Collection Antonella Rossi showcased 32 pieces. The final piece was a wedding dress on the catwalk accompanied by Damiano Cioci, winner of the last edition of the National Competition 'The Most Beautiful of 'Italy', 2015.

Of the 31 pieces within the collection, 8 represented the 'Capsule Collection'- a project combining Marco Zappa's figurative art and the sophistication of the product of haute couture, made entirely in Italy and designed by Giulia Mori.

The clothes were very delicate and feminine - the collection started with lots of cream with tones of pink and lilac, then teal and red and then plum, blue and black. There was lots of lace and embroidery linen, viscose, silk, georgette, organza and the use of different pleats and twists to enhance the female silhouette.

Truly beautiful expressions of art

Veramente belle espressioni d'arte

Outfit Post : At Alta Roma Day 1

This weekend was mostly spent indoors - the hubby has a nasty case of food poisoning and all my countless weekend plans went straight into the 'rubbish bin'. However, last weekend was a brilliant one - I spent it in Rome for AltaRoma, watching beautiful haute-couture, AltaModa fashion, eating too much food, shopping (any doubt ?) and meeting with the other members of the Chamber of Fashion Malta to discuss upcoming projects.

Here's what I wore on Day 1 - first of all it was freezing - freezing and fashion don't go well together, and then to make matters worse, inside the show locations was of course, heated and hot and stuffy. It's also impossible not to need to walk, even if you use taxis, you need to walk to the taxi stand and Rome is full of cobbles, some broken....I think if I lived in Rome I'd retire all my heels...

Below and Above - at the show in the Alta Roma official show tent.

Back onto the streets.................I'm in love with this Enrico Coveri coat - a very recent birthday present from the parents - in Rome I realised it's also very, very warm since it's made of 100% wool.

Thank the heavens for sneakers / trainers and their current return into the fashion world.

Because it was so cold I ended up wearing two pairs of thermal tights and socks on top of each other - my walk felt a tad bit restricted..

Events : AltaRoma : Giada Curti

The opening show for AltaRoma was Giada Curti - a celebrated Italian Haute Couture designer with a strong following around the world, especially in Dubai and the Middle East, who also marked 10 years of showcasing at AltaRoma.

The show presented the 'Sophia' collection - a collection inspired by Sophia Loren's movie 'Yesterday, today, tomorrow'. It was a very fifties-inspired show with tousled, big hair and full, big skirts and gowns. I loved the silhouette of the pieces, very feminine and very 'fun'. The materials used ranged from  brocade, silks, organza, macrame' lace and taffeta. A lot of the pieces also had oversized organza flowers.

The collection is actually quite wearable, I could definitely see myself attending the Malta Fashion Awards in this dress below !!

AltaRoma Weekend Diaries - Bella Roma

If you missed all of my 101 Instagram Rome posts - I spent last weekend in Rome. I traveled to Rome for the AltaRoma Haute Couture shows and some meetings related to the Chamber of Fashion Malta.

Apart from fashion, there was time spent walking around Rome, shopping the beautiful boutiques and of course eating lots of amazing food. I simply love Rome, I can't get enough of that city - the people are friendly, the fashion is fabulous, the food is extraordinary and there's something interesting to see at every turn. When I'm there all I want to do is walk, walk, walk and eat.

Here's some photo highlights from my trip

Events : AltaRoma : Antonio Grimaldi Spring - Summer 15

Saturday night - the talk of the fashion scene in Rome was the Antonio Grimaldi Spring/Summer 15 Haute Couture show.

He describes his collection as being inspired by the magic of flowers which was immediately evident by the fascinating catwalk carpet - 22 metres of colourful flower petals (14 thousand and 500 carnations) fashioned into a baroque mosaic by masters of a skill called Infiorata Flower from the Festival of Genzano - the result was breathtaking.

Onto the clothes - light, sheer, fabrics that flowed as the models walked, the models seemed to almost be gliding in a  breezy wind. The feeling I got when when watching this show was one of romance, of sensuality.

The main protagonist of his collection is definitely the dress. Different styles of dress, each beautiful in their individual way - his skill at playing with with different fabrics and shapes is tremendous. The female body is enhanced in all the pieces with transparencies that hint at fifties inspired lingerie corsets and nipped in waists

There were also some lovely prints, some even hand painted, reminiscent of the stunning work of photographer Irving Penn.

Events Post : Sif Jakobs & 202 & Valletta

sif jakobs

Recently, on a random day, I spent an hour simply walking around Valletta at night, with no particular destination in mind. I love Valletta so this isn't about some revelation as to how beautiful Malta's Capital City is but for a Sunday evening I was impressed by how lively it was, how many people were out and about, how music was playing in various places..just what fun it was. It truly reminded me of parts of Rome, a city that I adore, Valletta has really lifted itself out of the social black hole it had once become.

It's no wonder that Sif Jakobs fell in love with Malta and Valletta whilst on holiday in Malta last November, so much so that she decided she wanted to work with Malta and even more so when she stumbled upon 202 Jewellers in Valletta, a beautiful shop that's really put an effort into stylish decor and excellent lighting. They got in touch and started dealings only last February but her jewellery is already here at 202 Jewellers Santa Lucia Valletta and last night 202 Jewellers organised a lovely reception which spilled out onto the streets of Valletta, excellent food and all the works. The jewellery is super stylish and very chic, some lovely pieces..so let's get cracking and see some photos.

I really enjoyed meeting Sif herself, born in Iceland and educated as a goldsmith in Sweden she cites her various travels as her inspiration, in particular Italy which she refers to as her second home. The jewellery range has a sense of minimalism and reminds me very much of Nordic design. I particularly love the leather bracelets, they're a popular trend in general but I see so many ugly, cheap-looking ones, these are really stylish and the quality and finishing of the products is top notch.

Outfit Post : Roaming Around Rome

You might remember around a month ago I went to Rome and ALTARoma..I posted photos of what I wore to the events but I took my time with the general roaming around Rome daily outfits ..sorry..I've been trying to work a little less in August as I was feeling a little burnt out and needed some general rest.

But here's a 2-in-1 special :D. When on holiday my main priority is always comfort and the ability to walk walk walk and did I mention walk ? This trip in particular involved an immense amount of walking so I took up my most comfortable pair of sandals - Ecco sandals (King Shoe Shop Malta, similar in style to Birkenstocks - more of the whole ugly sandal trend) but the special thing about these shoes is that they allow for custom orthotics insoles to fit in place of the original footbed.

This day was a Sunday and I spent it shopping around the Spanish Steps area, visiting the Andy Warhol exhibition and just simply enjoying Rome...it was a bit rainy unfortunately but oh well.

Outfit Post : Pink Flamingos at Alta Roma and Giada Curti

Last Saturday in Rome, as Ferramoda Malta's stylist and representative, I attended the Giada Curti fashion show at AltaRoma. It took place at the Hotel Excelsior on Via Veneto in the grand ballroom, a truly beautiful and stunning room that really fit the concept of these luxurious intricate pieces and Arabic theme. Giada Curti's designs are heavily influenced by the beauty of Dubai and the Arabian landscapes and fashion style.

The capsule haute couture collection was titled Shukran, thank you in Arabic. She presented long dresses made with luxurious materials such as satin, chantilly lace, muslin and silk and draped to flow and skim across the body. . The colours of the pieces were muted and dreamy, in a reference to the Dubai desert landscape.
Beautiful turbans with intricate detailing were worn by each of the models and added to the exotic feeling the show evoked.

Before this show, I also attended an exhibition (more on that to come) so I was out quite early on and as such needed an outfit that would work for both. I decided to wear a knitted dress I had purchased a couple of years previously from an Italian independent designer Ilaria, her brand is called Flamingo Therapy. Funnily enough, I had found her in London at Old Spitalfields Market....she has some truly wonderful stuff. I also took my brand new vintage Chanel earrings (bought in Rome) out for their frist outing, they were very appreciative :)

These shoes from Zara are one of my best 204 purchases, I've been wearing them a LOT, simply because they are really comfortable and easy to walk on.
