EVENTS POST : MFWA - BRIDAL - MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK MALTA 2014 - DAY5

Day 5 of the Malta Fashion Week brought us three bridal shows, all showcased in one event at the imposing MCC. I was pretty impressed at how many people came to watch this show, whilst I know anything bridal is popular in Malta..I stilll wasn't expecting quite so many people.

The first show featured the local shop Wedding Bells. Marquita Kemper who runs Wedding Bells is an expert bridal stylist and dresser and this was really evident in yesterday's show. Besides the dresses themselves being beautiful, for all the girls, it seemed almost as though the dress had been made for them -everything fit them perfectly and they looked so beautiful as though they were really brides and this was their wedding dress.

Next up was Pronovias featuring hei 2014 Atelier Collection feauting different designers, one of which is Elie Saab who is one of the most celebrated bridal designers worldwide - these gowns are so intricate, so beautifully made ... they truly are a work of art. There was a lot of lace and of course the interest was in the amazing details of the dresses.

Last one up was Italian designer Loredana Rocca Salva and she showcased both bridal and occasion wear...these were highly original dresses with a lot of flair and interesting styling. Overall I preferred her bridal collection to her occasion wear but both ere a lot of fun to watch.

OUTFIT POST : MERCEDEZ-BENZ FASHION WEEK MALTA - DAY 3 - Lime and BANDALORI and C&R

I always say that whenever possible, when attending a show by one of our local designers, if I own anything by these designers, I try and wear that piece. This seemed like the perfect occasion to wear this gorgeous top from last Summer's Charles and Ron's Festa collection. I also wore a bag rom te same colelction and a scrf which I attached to the bag. I paired these pieces with long wide black trousers, a lime fur shrug and a feather necklace...and a beehive messy hair updo.

Events Post : MFWA - Charles and Ron - Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Malta 2014 - Day3

Today I must start by simply talking about the setting and organisation of this show and the show as a show. I thought the previous day's show (Caroline Hili) would be impossible to match up to as a location but Fort St Elmo is pretty incredible, the lighting was perfect and the projections projected onto the fort were really impressive. The organisers and producers of this year's fashion week have a really lot to be proud of and it's going to be pretty hard to beat this next year.

Now about the clothes, we've always known that Charles and Ron can design and produce beautiful clothes, year after year, they always wow us. However, every year their collections and image seem to get more and more sophisticated and their work and brand as a whole seems to become more refined. Today's show and collection screamed 'fashion house', from the way the logo was worked onto the different pieces, to the fact that they designed everything - from the shoes to the bags to the clothes, to the fact that they continue to create unique, different patterns and customize specific fabrics using these patterns - the brand as it has become, has really matured into a company and fashion house.

The clothes are beautiful but again, we always knew they would be, many of the pieces are highly wearable but they all have a touch of sophistication about them. Some of the pieces do require perfect figures, such as the tight midi skirts with cropped, box-shaped tops but there were many other different designs that could suit a variety of shapes and sizes. In fact, this is what really showcased their skill at designing, this was not a collection made up entirely of one style, a variety of different styles and designs were worked in a way such that all occasions and bodies are catered for but it was still a collection and each piece flowed seamlessly into the next one.
The collection was inspired by the city of Valletta and one of the pattern highlights is the Funtana, the Triton fountain found just outside our city wall...I'm going to have to get myself one of the Funtana dresses. The new small bags also stole my heart, so cute and funky and just plain interesting.

I must not fail to mention the makeup by Justin Brincat, I thought it was rather brilliant, especially since although it was a rather extreme look, he and his team somehow managed to make every girl still appear pretty without the make up looking in any way different from one model to the other. I also loved the hairstyles by Alexander. The look as a whole really exemplified the different characteristics of the city, the modern new additions, the old, the quiet, the bustling...the look was a contradictory look with dark black cat eyes and metallic silver toned, different coloured lips, pastel coloured clothing but with fierce prints - the contradictions and contrasts were everywhere.

My favourite item in the collection

My Styling Work : Behind the Scenes Photshoot with House of Jola (Nigeria)

As you must have heard, it's Malta Fashion Week and one of the shows is International Designers on Friday. House of Jola by designer Joan Okorodudu will be one of the fashion houses showcased. Since she loves Malta, she decided to come for the whole of fashion week, she also brought three of her models with her from her own agency Isis Models, one of which is the gorgeous Cynthia Abdullahi, the winner of last year's Nigerian Next Top Model. The other models are  Ejoh Gladys Maro and Isaac.

Yesterday was therefore photoshoot time with photographer Kurt Paris - at one of Malta's most picturesque beaches Gnejna Bay.

Events Post : MFWA - Caroline Hili - Malta Fashion Week 2014 - Day 2

You know you've just seen a brilliant collection when members of the audience walk up a long flight of steps in high heels to see the clothes up close and personal and ask the designers to reserve pieces for them; instead of going directly for a glass of wine.

Praise for tonight is twofold, the organisers of the event did a brilliant, brilliant job in setting up the event on the steps of Renzo Piano as they are known in Valletta, the lighting was perfect, the mood captured the vibe perfectly and the model timing was spot on. Speaking of the models, their walks really rose to the occasion today with many of the models giving their best ever catwalk performance.

Next praise of course now goes to the divine Caroline Hili. When you meet Caroline Hili and learn that she's a fashion designer who has worked for some of the biggest names in the industry, it simply makes sense. Caroline screams elegance, from the manner in which she speaks, to her natural poise and beauty...I always expected something brilliant from her. She did not disappoint in any way, shape or form - the collection simply couldn't be better. From a white pantsuit that looked perfect from all angles, to a silver dress with the cutest flounce hem, to stunning gowns...there's a lot to tickle one's fancy. It is very evident from these pieces that Caroline knows a thing or two about the craft of fashion design and understands a woman's body and how to enhance it. She also seems to know just what women want  and her pieces are striking without being overwhelming and stylish without being over-the-top trendy. I applaud her good taste.

And here are my favourite looks of the night - all photos by Kurt Paris.

Outfit Post : Malta Fashion Week - Day 1 PM - A Dress Fit For A Doll

The first evening of Malta Fashion Week was something I had to plan ahead for as I took the outfit with me to the morning show, did not leave Valletta in between shows. I knew my feet would be mega tired so I wanted something that I could incorporate flats with.

Since again, it was a local show celebrating new designers I liked the idea of incorporate something local and I decided to wear this beautiful dress by the talented creative Factory 7 (CF7) that reminds me of a doll's dress - so fun and cute! To give it that dose of fashion edge, I teamed it with Doctor Martens classic boots.

Outfit Post : Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week Malta - Day 1 AM - Dungarees and a HeadPiece

The first morning of Malta Fashion Week was a difficult one in terms of outfit planning. First off it was a morning show and since I'm working backstage, I had to be there bright and early. Also, there was also an evening show which meant I would probably be wearing this outfit for many hours until I changed for the evening show. I settled on wearing denim dungarees and a crop top.

Since it was a local show I wanted to incorporate something local and what better way than to wear a piece by one of the designer's at their won show - check out this stunning handmade headpiece by the talented creative Factory 7 (CF7)

My pink Coccinelle Satchel was a perfect godsend as it matched the look perfectly and could hold all my stuff.

Events Post : MFWA New Designers Show - Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Malta 2014

Hot on the heels of the solo designer show yesterday morning, last night at Casino Maltese 12 young designers exhibited their work and new collections to the public. Great fashion show modelled by supernovamodels, com, hair by Elaine Galea, Krista Paris and Eva Garden and some really lovely hairstyles (fishtails!) by Dreads Salon.

First out on the catwalk was Edith and she opened with quite a bang...there were lots of lovely pieces and I especially liked the feather details, but of course the most impressive piece was the black dress with a gold leaf cape modelled by Sarah Bonaci and WOW ...this is one stunning piece.

Next was Gremar, a more established designer who has been working as a designer for a few years now, the pieces are lovely and quite exquisite, lovely lace pieces with intricate jewelled details and some lovely dresses made using some type of Serbian 3D technique that gave quite an elaborate effect.

Up next was Marta Gomez Vidal and this collection was quite interesting - aztec patterns, bright colours combined with leather harnesses and some lovely bags. I liked this designer's use of colour and different patterns.

The next designer was menswear, if I'm not wrong this is the first time in the Malta Fashion Week that a new designer has presented a menswear collection. Marco Parascandalo was a lot of people's favourite, his ready-to-wear street inspired pieces are fun, trendy and highly wearable...love the shorts and slogan t-shirts...think he must think about womenswear next.

Churpina - has a very bubbly, eclectic image and that was really reflected in her clothes. They were some very interesting designs and some really nice colour and pattern combinations.

Fransina and her lovely handmade bags was next. I love bags so it comes as no surprise that this was one of my favourite collections, I'm a sucker for a beautiful bag and these had lovely details like wooden handles, slouchy soft material, these have definitely been added to my shopping list.

Mosca really impressed me, her collection was absolutely superb...the material used is wonderful - there were slinky dresses and tops, leather bags with different textures. These pieces felt very 'finished' for want of a better word and of a very high quality. They didn't feel in any way experimental, they are the sort of pieces you would expect to find in a showroom of an established designer.

Lukka had some really lovely dresses and skirts, I loved the main plum colour and the floral pattern. There was a dress in particular with puffy sleeves that I really, really loved.

Taia - Mandy and Alicia's floral themed collection had very nice tailoring - the pieces fit very well and each piece had a good sense of body proportions. They also paid a great deal of attention to the little details like using different materials for buttons and different textures in one piece. My particular favourites were a flouncy skirt that I really fell in love with and a pair of printed, leather boots.

Celeste
This girl is not new to Malta Fashion Week or fashion design and she presented a great collection with a variety of different items, her collection was inspired by the five stages of grief that follow death.

Poshet!
These bags are fun and interesting with a nice dose of quirkiness, a nice handbag always excites me.

Rosemarie Abela was most definitely last but not least....this was some serious brilliant designing work, inspired by Asia and the ancient Samurais - Rosemarie spared no effort or expense. From the exquisite choice of fabrics (lots of silk and lovely knit) to the interesting, unique designs and surreal accessories, I was really impressed, this is one talented girl.

In the past years, I must admit this show was never one of the highlights former, whilst there were always one or two really god designers, few really presented something a bit special worthy of a fashion week and some felt a bit drab and of poor quality. This year I was so please to see how the standard has really shot up and all the designers put in a great deal of effort - thumbs up to all
