Events Post : LIST ROMA & Luisa Spagnoli

Last Wednesday in Pjazza Tigne, amidst the unfortunate cold weather, good food and flowing wine, two lovely shops - LIST ROMA and Luisa Spagnoli, showcased their new collections - modeled by Supernova models.

LIST ROMA's collection this season is IMO one of their best ever, it's really versatile, there are a lot of bright colours and as much as I hate to use the word, some pieces are super trendy. I wore a lovely dress from the collection that night - ootd to follow.

The outfit below is one of my absolute faves.

The collection is geared towards multiple age groups, not teenagers, but I can see both 21-year-olds as well as 50/ 60-year-olds finding something they love in the store. Check out the slideshow below - as you can see there's quite a variety of styles.

Luisa Spagnoli also had some very interesting pieces, with a mix of both casual and more formal, elegant looks. As a target audience, the collection is geared towards a slightly older age in my opinion, perhaps over 35/40-year-olds, although then again it depends on the figure and personal taste.

Check out the slideshow below - loving the pink

Malta Fashion Week : Ferragiu & Nilara : 2015

Tonight's show was quite a lovely one, the location was great and the setup was very visually appealing. The show showcased two designers with very different styles. Both designers however have great workmanship and high quality tailoring in common. It was a pleasure to watch both of them tonight.

All Photos by KURT PARIS

Juliana Scerri Ferrante describes Ferragiu's second collection as evoking the Renaissance time period and that sense of artistic extravagance is quite obviously present within her patterns and designs. I'm not really going to delve into reviewing her work as I work too closely with Juliana (the designer of Ferragiu) in various fashion matters for it not to sound biased but I will just say that I loved the beautiful silk patterns and flowing pieces. Here are my favourite picks.

This was my absolute favourite - I want to throw the model out and crawl into that photo myself in her place. I really like the combination fo the different fabrics and colours.

Next up was Nilaya and I give Nilay Topai Camilleri a big thumbs up, I feel she really stepped up to the plate and designed an excellent collection. There was good music, an interesting theme - 'Paint It Black' and a continuing story line and colour concept that flowed from one piece to the other. Not all the pieces are wearable, some are a little too dramatic to be worn off the catwalk but there are quite a few dresses that I would quite love to wear to some fabulous party.

One thing that struck me about this collection is how it celebrated the female form, albeit some of the pieces require a perfect female form but they drape the body in such a way that enhances and flatters existing curves. There's some lovely intricate detailing on many of the pieces and I especially enjoyes seeing how the gorgeous lace fabrics were worked within the pieces.

Malta Fashion Week 2015 - What's On & What To Wear

So it's that time of year again - when Malta devotes an entire week to celebrating and showcasing local fashion and some international fashion too. For those who don't really understand what Malta Fashion Week is, you can read this post I wrote a few weeks ago that elaborates a bit more on the whole affair. Then hop on back here to learn about the calender of events for 2015 and if you're a woman - what to wear to said events.

CALENDAR

If you're somehow connected to the event then it kicks off with a private launch party on the 8th May. This usually involves a bit too much celebration and somewhat of a hangover the next day.

9th May Day 1
The official open-to-the-public event kicks off the next day with two events. At Pjazza San Gorg in Valletta, a stunning open-air photography exhibition will be officially opened, exhibiting some stunning works by both local and international photographers.

Across the sea, in the evening at 20:00 at Pjazza Tigne a fashion show promoting the stores of The Point will take place

What To Wear
- This show will be presenting many different high street brands with highly different collections so I think this will be a fun one to have a bit of 'fashion fun' and experiment a little.

10th May Day 2
On Day 2 it's all happening at MCC,  at 17:00 prospective brides and wedding aficionados are in for a treat as CF7, Farage, Bridal Creations' and Ivory & Co are all going to be dressing the fashion week models in one beautiful gown after another. This is a good opportunity for any bride-to-be to see a huge variety of different styles of gowns in one place. If you ae a bride-to-be try and get a feel for which style you think you might like to wear and what would suit you. It's also Mother's day so this might be a nice one to bring mummy along as a guest.

Later on, in the evening, one of my favourites of the lot - it's the New Designers Show - time to see what Malta's emerging, new talent has to offer.

What To Wear
This is rather a long day and my guess is a lot of you will be coming straight from Sunday lunch sooo I suggest something loose and comfy to hide any food babies.

11th May Day 3
And on Day 3 it's a double bill at Ordanance Street by Ferragiu and Nilara. Ferragiu is a young brand that is offering high end, exclusive designs using luxury fabrics, her last collection was very interesting so ddefinitelyone to watch out for. Nilara is presently mainly known as a very popular shop in Malta selling mainly attire for evening parties / weddings, for this event a big heads up - she is launching her couture line at Fashion Week, I was lucky enough to see some preliminary sketches and they look fabulous.

What To Wear
The mood and vibe of this event is likely to be a bit more formal, so I suggest something a bit smart, perhaps a smart jumpsuit and blazer or a dress and blazer, and I also suggest adding a very nice bag

12th May Day 4
And on Day 4 it's two shows once again. At the Malta Society of Arts Nadege Renee Cassar will present her high end, innovative jewelry designs. Right after, at the Malta Chamber of Commerce, it's a triple bill by Maltese designer Marco Parascandalo, Julia Boikova and Indian designer Sai Suman. Marco already has quite a following in Malta and a little birdie told me he's heading in a slightly different direction this time round sooooo I'm definitely curious.

What To Wear
With a varied and interesting mix of designers, this one is a bit harder to get a feel on what the vibe will be like but my guess is that for this one it's time to pull out something a bit interesting and different - let's have some fashion.

13th May Day 5
Caroline Hili is up next at the Barakka Lift, Lascaris Wharf. Her collection last year was a very big hit so expectations are high for this one.

What To Wear
For some reason I'm finding this a bit difficult to decide, a lot of the guests will be dressed smartly but Caroline loves innovation. I'd say go for something that embraces femininity and expresses your individuality.

14th May Day 6
The highly imaginative Ritienne Zammit is showcasing at the stunning Grandmaster's Palace followed by a private event organised by luxury multi-brand store Sarto at an undisclosed location.

What To Wear
This one depends on whether you're attending both shows or not. For Ritienne's show something eclectic and interesting would be perfectly suited but the Sarto events calls for something a bit luxurious, slightly more formal.

15th May Day 7
And on the last day of fashion week we play host to a select group of International Designers and there are designers flying in from London, Paris, Serbia, New York and Nigeria - bound to be a highly versatile and interesting show.

What To Wear
Again this has a very varied lineup but traditionally the crowd for this event tends to be quite smarty dressed so I'd say leave the jeans at home for this one.

Right after fashion week on Saturday 16th the Malta Fashion Awards happens - all the designers from the week just passed present a small subset of their collections along with hair shows and of course award presentations.

HOW TO GET TICKETS?

Now for the important bit:

Spotlight on NICHOLAS K at Milan Fashion Week

The NICHOLAS K label is made up of designer duo Nicholas and Christopher Kunz - two designers that together have created something very visually exiting. They showcased in New York this Fashion Week as well but I got the chance to catch the Milan Show.

Th collection immediately brings to mind the exploration theme with both the accessories and colour palate evoking ideas of both desserts and urban life. They  cite the explorer Isabelle Eberhart a brave woman who left Geneva as a young girl and traveled to North Africa dressed as a man to fight against the injustices of colonial rule and help the poor. The pieces are powerful, designed for a strong, powerful woman. There are some truly interesting pieces and I particularly liked the jackets - both the shawl-style ones and the shorter more biker-influenced-style.

Spotlight on CIVIDINI at Milan Fashion Week

Miriam and Piero Cividini are partners in business and life. Their fashion design combines  their personalities and clever ideas with a clever mix of handcraft and modern technology. The original small collection of knitwear cashmere has grown significantly over the years and this year their show was one of the most attended at Milan Fashion Week.

The collection presented is quite a timeless one with a very interesting colour palette. Shades of browns and beiges mixed in with blacks and greys and purples and plums made for very interesting visual interest. Key materials found within the collection are leather, fur, cashmere (of course!) and wool. I also loved the interesting layering styling ideas presented and the hairstyles that really complemented the look.

London Fashion Week : Marko Mitanovski

It's not every day you attend a fashion show where the models are painted head-to-toe in black paint and dressed in latex and leather designs, some of them resembling architectural sculptures. Marko Mitanovski is a London-based Serbian designer , who, over the last few years, has been gaining quite a fair bit of fame. He has a passion for the colour black, he describes it as being his favourite colour. His designs are favoured by Lady Ga Ga which should come as no surprise given their innovative nature.

London Fashion Week, in general, is renowned for crazy and original designs but this was probably one of the more memorable and innovative ones I attended.

And for the finale - we've got a bit of white contrast ...

A Day at London Fashion Week

This past week, everyone I've met in Malta has asked me 'What Was Fashion Week Like?' Not 'What did you see?' or 'Which designer did you like most?' but 'What is it like?'. It's not really a question you can just answer on the spot. it requires a bit of thought and it's difficult to explain so I thought, the best way to answer this is to give you a breakdown of a day at London Fashion Week. I'm breaking down the very first day- the longest one of the lot.

As most of you know I went there with the hubby who is a fashion photographer so there's two of us to talk about :p

Milan Fashion Week : Francesco Scognamilio

This is my first trip to Milan Fashion Week, arriving straight from London fashion week on an early morning flight after 5 days of very little sleep, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Milan Fashion Week is different to London Fashion Week - there's no doubt about that. In London there's a sense of childish fun, from the way the people dress, to the attitude of the staff at Somerset House, there's a lot of happiness that fashion week is here and everyone is determined to make the most of it. Here the attitude is much more grim, much more business minded much more focused. Unlike London the average person interested in fashion does not participate, to be here you must be a buyer or press.

With that in mind, there is an overwhelming amount of things to discover, shows/presentations, this fashion week is packed so good time management is essential. Back to the matter at hand and on the first day I attended a really beautiful show Francesco Scognamiglio - I know I use the word beautiful too often but this really is the best way to describe this show & collection. The place (Palazzo Reale) is magnificent, models that walk like fairies and clothes that make you want to undress the models and crawl into them in their place.

My favourite pieces are the lilac, long silk dresses with leather three-dimensional roses embellished and layered on top. The feeling of this collection is purely feminine, very sleek and elegant - they evoke a passionate sentiment.

Street Style : London Fashion Week : Burberry A/W 15

So from my Social Media Streams, it may have come to your attention that I received an invite to the Burberry A/W 15 Show. I must admit my first reaction was - 'what on earth am I going to wear' after which the anticipation  at attending such a high profile fashion show started to kicke in.

Sooo what was it like ? Well .... I got there a bit earl ....y so I had to wait for the doors to open and it was coldddd but then once the gates to Kensington Palace Gardens were open and we walked up that stretch and came to well this image below ..it's quite a magical feeling.

There was an immediate frenzy by everyone to get their picture taken under the sign ..and then everyone rushed in to find their place

Inside...........

Model Elena Permitova

And the show began......I will post an outfit post tomorrow along with some pics of my favourite pieces in the collection. For today, I'll just say that the show was fantastic, the music was goosebump-inducing outwardly and the clothes....let's just say all I saw were things I want to buy.

I snapped the FROW that was facing my side..along with Mr Sartorialist himself.

And the magical finale

And for a some pics of what people were wearing.........

BTW - interesting side note...look at the photos above again and count how many people are using their mobile...the twitter feed was going crazy
