Beauty : Olay Total Effects Day Moisturiser

Today's review is  about the Olay Total Effects Day Moisturiser product. It's been a while since I posted beauty reviews but I'm going to try and make it a blog rule that every Monday, come rain or shine, there'll be a new beauty review up on the blog.

Olay is one of those product lines that has always intrigued me. I admit, I'm mainly a bit of a product snob when it comes to skincare, I generally use products that are a bit on the pricey side like Clinique, Decleor, Estee Lauder. However, Olay gets really rave reviews, both from friends and blogs and magazines. When they approached me and asked me if I'd like to try out some of their products, I immediately said yes, I figured at the very least I'd get to satisfy my lingering curiosity.

The first thing I noticed when looking at the packaging is that the moisturiser has an SPF of 15 which was enough protection for May but would need sunblock to be worn over for the hotter months. The second thing I noticed is that the moisturiser has a pump-like application. I absolutely rave about pump applicators. I hate pot-style dispensers - I always feel worried about what germs I could possibly be inserting into the pot when extracting the cream, I always take too much and it always gets stuck underneath my nails. So points in favour for the pump.

For this product, these are the 7 official claims:

1. Visibly smoothes fine lines and wrinkles

2. Evens skin tone appearance

3. Enhances brightness

4. Minimizes the look of pores

5. Visibly reduces age spots

6. Restores firmness

7. Replenishes moisture

I used this product every morning for two weeks. There's nothing remarkable about my morning beauty routine. I generally like to start by cleaning my face, toning it, applying eye cream and applying moisturiser.

Review Points

Line minimization - I get fine lines due to dryness or dehydration but am not yet suffering from age lines or wrinkles so couldn't really test this one

Tone & Brightness enhancement - I didn't really see any difference to my overall skin tone colour but my complexion did look nice and well rested somehow, as though it was really happy.

Pore refinement - I have some open pores, so had this feature worked, I'd have been a happy bunny, sadly I saw no difference.

Age spots - I don't have any age spots but I do have a couple of sun spots and those are still there.

Mositurising & Hydrating Effect - Pretty good, from the first day, by the evening, I had no dry patches anywhere - something which I have previously experienced with other products. Also, foundation stayed put on top of it and didn't cake or melt off.

Others :

Dries quickly - I refuse to wait a length of time between applying moisturiser and applying makup so a fast drying time is essential to me. This faired well.

Overall Review

I liked this moisturiser, comparing it to other much pricier ones I've used, I did not feel that this product did the job any worse than they did. In fact, I've continued to use it in the mornings - it's taken up a place of residence in my gym bag since I start most days with a gym session.

I did not feel that it meets all of the claims it makes, or at least in my case it didn't but in my experience that's generally true of most beauty products.

Outfit Post : Twisted Bride and Different Shoes

Yesterday's outfit was my version of a  twist on a bridal outfit - all the elements are there - something shiny, sequins, white and cream and something covering my hair :D. I couldn't decide between wearing my new heeled Birkenstocks or this New Silver Rubber Heels I found in Primark last September and never got round to wearing. I decided to simply wear both, and switch to and fro between them. I also grunged my hair using that sea salt spray I h

The great thing about this outfit is that it's insanely comfortable and since yesterday was a very long day including two Malta Fashion Week shows and Mother's Day Lunch, some sort of comfort was a must.

Outfit Post : A few weeks back....

Before straight hair, before Christmas, I went shopping to my favourite place in Malta - Valletta. I decided to wear an outfit based around different shades of cream and white with some blue and a whole lot of colour in one shawl. I also wore one of my favourite pairs of shoes this Winter, extremely comfy shoes Dockers (from Stivaletti) made from blue suede leather that I'm obsessed with when worn with skinny jeans of the same shade.. I just love the way the laces tie around the shoe.

Outfit Details: Bag : Alexander Wang / Jeans : Jennyfer / Shawl : San Marino / Coat : Nasty Gal / Beanie : MEXX (old) / Shoes : Dockers at Stivaletti

Events Post : La Prairie Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Complex

Yesterday I attended a launch event of La Prairie - launching the swiss ice crystal complex.

From their website  :

"La prairie discovered not one, but three survivalist plants growing in a crystalline world of ice, snow, and unrelenting sun.
  • Soldanella Alpina stores energy to melt a place in the snow and ice to grow and blossom.
  • Swiss snow algae which hibernates and regenerates through the frigid winter, then reveals itself as a crimson blanket as the snow begins to melt.
  • purple saxifragcocoons itself with ice crystals as the temperature drops to protect its buds against harsh environmental conditions.
Combining patent-pending biotechnology with nature’s most powerful survivalist secrets, la prairie has found a way to extract the dna-protecting power of the plants to create the revolutionary swiss ice crystal complex. the result is a brilliant new way to help the skin protect itself from the visible signs of accelerated ageing."

The new products are:

Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Cream,  a daily moisturiser that is meant to help the skin recover from daily stress, environmental toxins and pollution whilst hydrating, smoothing wrinkles and combating ageing.

Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Dry Oil,  a beautiful dry oil which both nourishes and hydrates, does not cause any breakouts or leave skin feeling sticky but leaves it feeling soft and nurtured.  It is based on a special blend of plant oils with anti-ageing benefits and powerful antioxidants.

The products can be used interchangeably or mixed together...II had the chance to try them out mixed together on my hands and the effect was beautiful, so soft, so luxurious...There's also non of that sticky feeling, the formula is absorbed immediately into the skin with no residue left. They are suitable for all ages. The cream can be used both as a morning and night cream.

The event was held at the recently opened Casablanca at Bahar ic-Cahaq, a lovely place with a great view, lovely ambience, good food and a very pretty layout; it was a very nice event and a very pleasant way to spend an evening.

Trial Sized Products to take home - ill be posting my reviews  once I've used them for a few weeks.
