Random : It's My Birthday !!

Since my birthday falls so close to the start of the new year, I tend to measure a year from one birthday to the next, so today is when I take a look back on all that the last year has brought, with all its highs and lows.

It''s been a good year, it's a strange word to use but somehow, looking back at it, makes me feel oddly satisfied. When I was younger, I never really cared about whether or not I felt I had accomplished anything throughout the last year. In my early twenties especially, I regarded life as just one big ball of space to have as much fun as possible in. As I hit late twenties and now, today, I've turned 31 it's as though I've had this realisation that life is kind of a precious object and as morbid as it sounds, it does eventually run out. I've had this feeling of wanting to ensure that I'm living a life worth living - at least a life worth living according to Caroline :).

Some highlights from the last year included - celebrating my 30th in Paris with the hubby, a trip to Florence with my mother, blogging for Simshar & handling International Relations for Malta Fashion Week in May, going to AltaRoma in July, lots and lots of beach time in August, the New Model Today Competition and London Fashion Week in September, Ferramoda and the launch of the Chamber of Fashion Malta and the Malta Fashion Association in November, a trip to Paris with the hubby in December and a brilliant Christmas period. And of course, there were lots of other dinners, weddings and time with friends and family but those don't relate as much to this blog.

Flick through the slideshow for a trip down my memory lane (each photo is a link to that post)

It was also an exciting year for this blog in terms of lots of brand collaborations, general growth and I've also written for many different publications, both local and international. This is where I say a BIG FAT THANK YOU to all of you for following me and reading what I have to say.

As a parting note, I'd like to finish off this 'serious' reflection post with one thing - as I get older and 'wiser', I've started to live life more for myself - I care so much less now about what person X thinks of me or why person Y seems to dislike me, than I did 5 years ago. This is my life, my appearance, my work. I refuse to care about bitchiness and whilst I really do appreciate all suggestions and constructive criticism that people pass my way, I might still decide to do things differently. Here's to another good year!

Outfit : At Ferramoda - Before & During

Sometimes life gets so busy that what happened just two weeks ago can feel like light years away - so two weeks ago I worked backstage at an event FERRAMODA which you can read all about here.

Here's what I wore, before the actual event started (choosing the girls outfits, handling preps & makeup) and whilst the event was ongoing (I was working backstage anyway but I did pop out a bit before so decided to get somewhat dolled up).
The hardest thing to get right is the shoes - working as a stylist backstage at a fashion show means running up and down a million and one times, it means bending down to take shoes off the models, tearing clothes off them and putting others back on and answering twenty questions at once. The worst thing you could do is wear uncomfortable shoes, on the other hand you do want to look good so along came these fantastic ankle boots by TOSCA BLU (Stivaletti) that are really comfortable and imo really beautiful - I love the quilted detailing.

My hair was originally blowdried straight and then curled with ghd hair straighteners by the Toni&Guy Team who also styled all the models for the event.

My dress is from a shop that's only been open a year or so MIMI Boutique in San Gwann - the brand is Apanage but they house others - I'll be writing a Shopping Post with more details very soon.

Outfit Post : Monochrome Touches

Last weekend was an eventful one - Ferramoda, Launch of the Chamber of Fashion Malta  and Malta Fashion Association, speaking lots of Italian and some food - Monday evening I was invited to a lovely dinner at Pappanis - scrumptious Italian food and I decided to go for a monochrome outfit.

I got to wear a brand new knit dress from MAX&Co. - so new that I forgot to remove the tag and left ti hanging out - ten points Caroline. It's a really versatile piece and can easily be dressed u[ or down and made to look like a completely different piece under a jacket / coloured shawl /different jewellery.

This brilliant necklace is from Coccinelle - I love how it completely dresses up an outfit.

Events Post : Ferramoda

Last Sunday, at the Mediterranean Conference Center, the 10th edition of Ferramoda took place - besides providing a lovely night of Fashion, the main scope of this event is to raise funds for underprivileged children in Malta.

The evening was hosted by Joe Chetcuti and featured a number of fashion shows and designers and musical interludes including Soprano Ruth Sammut Casingena and as guest of honour the Italian singer Numa, (Emanuela Palmer who is also the wife of Dire Straits guitarist Phil Palmer) she actually launched  her new single at the event. The song is named AMORE DEL PASSATO, at Ferramoda Numa sang the song whilst, the video, directed by Giuseppe Raccioppi (Troisi Award) was played on a screen behind her (photos
below and above).

Now for the important bit - The FASHION Shows. Let's start by saying that I watched absolutely nothing since I was running around doing a million and one things backstage. Hair was set beautifully by Toni and Guy and makeup by Franks.

The first set featured local shops Trussardi Jeans

and Luisa Spagnoli. (models from supernova)

Next up was the Spanish designer Lucia De Su, her simply wonderful designs promote African culture through her choice of textiles and patterns. (models from supernova)

FERRAGIU, a new local design house by Juliana Scerri Ferrante that feature the made in MaltItaly concept, promoting the Maltese and Italian cultures using Italian wool and silks and lace and ganutell made by  Gozitan and Maltese artisans. (models from supernova)

Also featured were male suits by designer Apulian Peppino The Judice  sold at AG Italia and clothes and jewellery from Rodo. All the above shows also showcased sunglasses from K-Optics.

The finale of the evening was Italian Haute Couture designer Anton Giulio Grande: his clothes are made from feathers, silk, chiffon, lace and embroidery and using Swarovski crystals. (models from supernova)

The finalists walked in three stages wearing fashion collections from Emilio Schubert,  Neapolitan designer Gianni Molaro and  Ferragiù from Malta.

This was actually Ferragiu's  world premiere, with clothes designed and made by fashion designer Juliana Scerri Ferrante, made entirely by hand using Maltese lace and Italian silks. At this event I was actually working as a stylist backstage for Ferragiu, helping dress the girls and  everything else needed.
