What To Wear To Work in SUMMER

work wear

This post was requested by a friend of mine who the other day elaborated on her frustration at dressing up to work every day and thinking she looks great but then having to travel to work in the heat and needless to say feeling like a hot mess by the time she arrives at the office.

With that in mind, I've picked out a couple of things that can help keep you cool whilst still looking stylish. Before we delve into the items, here are a couple of tips for travelling to work during the hotter months.

  • Pay attention to the fabric of the item
      • Polyester for example, has the benefit of rarely creasing so it travels well in Winter but it's also completely not breathable and actually naturally water-repellent; which means sweat will build up and cause that sticky, uncomfortable feeling.
      • Natural materials such as cotton and linen are much better at allowing the body to breath and also absorbing moisture from the skin, allowing it to evaporate. Viscose and rayon are other great fabrics, they are semi-synthetic but made from natural raw materials and highly absorbent.
  • Use layers
    • It might be colder in an air-conditioned office than in the car or train, so carry a shawl or jacket or cardigan with you to wear indoors.
  • Use waterproof makeup
    • Nothing looks worse than running foundation so get a waterproof one or use a good fixer.

Now for the clothes
- from left to right

ASOS Flowered Shirt - €16.44 - On Sale and made from 100% viscose - wear with loose black / white trousers - the fun pattern will make you smile each time you look in the mirror.

MODCLOTH Blue Dress - $54.99 - 95% rayon and 5% spandex - this should have a great fit and is great for those board meetings or when you need to look a bit 'extra put together'

ASOS Monochrome Shirt - €47.94 On Sale and 100% cotton - this one is a really stylish one - click on the link and check out the great back detail.

ASOS Blue Blouse €47.94 On Sale - 68% Viscose, 32% Polyester. This one has a bit of polyester so maybe don't wear on the most humid of days but it's only a slight percentage.

HOUSEOFFRASER Black Skirt £99.00 On Sale -99% Cotton 1% Polyamide - This is such a versatile piece, you can wear and re-wear a couple of hundred times - it will look totally different with shirts won on the inside than with blouses on the outside and different shoes.

THEOUTNET Bag $392 - A neutral bag that looks good with just about everything.

BENEFIT PRIMPING WITH THE STARS KIT - €37.10 - To carry around in your bag for when your face needs some perking up.

Family Corner : A little Spot of Online Shopping

Untitled #107

In this edition of the Family Corner I've scouted the web for some pretty and cute items for kids. Disney remains a favourite  in my opinion and the last few years have really seen a surge in the popularity of the main characters, especially Mickey and Minnie. Converse are not just for adults especially pink ones and all girls need a Disney watch and pretty hair grips.

The best thing about shopping for kids is that of course it's guilt free shopping - I mean its for the kids right ? There's no way that could be in any way wrong :P.

Outfit Post : Diaries of the Weekend

Last weekend was quite an eventful one - first up I was a guest on Malta Llejla (the TV Show on NET TV). Right after I made my way to the Lilly Mae fashion show (more on that to come) and right after that I attended the 202 Sif Jakobs Launch Event....that was followed by a meal at Scolgitti where I got to witness a great storm whilst eating divine pasta with lobster .

The next day I woke up and made my way to the wedding of a very good friend of mine..lovely luncheon at Villa Arrigo. That evening I also had a disco-themed hen night. And the next day it was an early start for a photoshoot styling job. Follow it all through a few too many photos.

Body Shape : Clothes for an Inverted Triangle

Our appearance is important and the way we dress is one of the main factors contributing to our appearance. It is very important to understand what type of clothes and what style works for your body and what doesn't. Although every body is different from another we do have basic rules that can generally be applied to a category of body shapes. You can determine your body shape at Learn Your Body Shape.
Today this post is focusing on inverted triangles - an inverted triangles generally has a wider/broader upper body & broad arms, wide back, lean legs, narrow hips and a smaller bum, an ample bust might be present but this is not always the case.

The fundamental fact about this body type is that the upper half has a lot more to it than the lower half since we always aim at a sense of proportionate as a body ideal, what we want to do is add a sense of volume and attention to the lower half whilst ensuring to not in any way adding volume or too much attention to the upper half.

Do's

Wear a-line and fuller skirts, this will make your waist and upper half appear smaller. Short skirts won't work as there simply isn't enough material to draw eyes downward.

Wear patterned trousers, your legs are your best friend draw maximum attention to them.

Wear dresses and tops that nip in at the waistline, these will create a waist even if there isn't one.

Wear wrap dresses - the position at which these dresses fasten are great at hiding midsection fat.

Wear light coloured jeans, this will add bulk to your legs and bum, making them appear curvier. Back pockets will also help.

Wear vertical lines on your lower half, we want the extra width.

Wear dark colours on your upper half, dark colours can make the body appear slimmer.

Wear open necklines - halter necks, cowl necks

Use belts to create a waist

Don'ts

Wear patterned tops, this will draw too much attention upwards.

Wear anything with padded shoulders, we are looking to decrease not increase the shoulder size.

Wear narrow, tight pencil skirts - the narrowing at the bottom will make your shoulders appear broader.

Wear horizontal lines on the upper body.

Don't wear very tight trousers, this would emphasis you lean legs and by comparison make your stomach seem fatter.

Trends Post : Slogan TSHIRTS

With the return of 90's fashion last year, the one thing that of course has made a HUGE comeback is the T-SHIRT...for those of you who were around in the 90's and remember t-shirts and how we just lived in them, you might also remember how for many of us our t-shirts needed to send some sort of message to society..either as to how cool and laid back we were, what alcoholics we were, what countries we've visited...the list goes on but you get the gist. Slogan tees as I like to call them are all the rage again but this time they're more about one word statements rather than inspirational messages......either way I still find them ...to echo the 90's word .. very frigging COOL .
One of the shops that seems to have seriously stocked up on different slogan t-shirts this season, is Jennyfer and I made it my mission to snap each and every one of them - my fave is the first one below :)

I also created this collage with some options from the online world - click on the items in the pic to go to the stores.

Shopping Post : Skater Dresses on Sale

By popular request - after yesterday's post some more sale items with a focus on dresses - skater dresses to be precise, one of the hottest items we've had his year..and they suit so many different figure types, they're great for pear shaped girls, great for hourglass and can also be pulled off by apples sometimes (find one with a higher waistline that's right under the bust).

Now you may notice that I haven't listed the shops where these dresses are from - for kicks I'm leaving a bit of mystery on this one....you need to click on the individual images to see where they're from!

Happy Shopping!!
