NEWS : MFCC WAREHOUSE SALE '15

It's time to talk about the yearly warehouse event happening at MFCC. It started last Thursday and ends tomorrow but stock gets replenished daily. There's a bunch of bargains to be had and some good stores are participating. There are different stands, ranging from homeware to food to of course clothes. Since this is a fashion blog :P - here's some info on the clothes.

The shops that interested me most were mainly -  River Island, New Look, Timberland (for the boys), Kiabi, Benetton and Sisley, Miss Sixty / Desigual / Killah, Teatro Boutique and Rinascimento - all shops I actually like to shop from at full price. Finding the good stuff does involve some hunting, so if that kind of shopping gives you the jeepers, this might not be the best place for you. If on the other hand, the thought of a good scavenger hunt realising in an awesome prize, makes your heart rate rise a notch..then I suggest you hightail it there today...you might find me there on round 2...

And for some product shots ..click through this awesome - work-of-art installation slideshow below

Opens today from 10 a.m - 10 p.m and tomorrow from 10 a.m - 9 p.m

Body Shape Post : How to Choose the Right Boots

Boots, just like our bodies are not made equal, a lot of people don't realise that our different shapes and sizes actually somewhat dictate which boot style will flatter us most.

Before we delve into boots for body types, I've already written many body shape posts including the all-important how to learn your body shapewhat to wear if you're a pearwhat to wear if you're an apple. You might want to learn a bit more about your own body before reading the rest of this article. If you already know your shape, then here's the boot & body shape lowdown.

As a starter tidbit, here are a few general rules across all styles

  • Shorter women will look best in a heeled boot version - extra height, real or fake, always helps, especially on curvy women.
  • For pear-shaped women or women with thicker thighs and hips, I love chunky boots (whatever the actual boot style) as I feel this balances out the area. A thicker heel will also balance out thick calves.

Ankle Boots

Nero Giardini at Stivaletti

Looks Best On - Everyone.
Looks Worst On - Nobody.

I'm starting with the most universal of styles - this one flatters most body shapes. The great thing about ankle boots is that they create the illusion of extra length and who doesn't want longer-looking legs ?

Stiletto heels like the one in the picture below will elongate the legs further, however, I don't recommend wearing them with skinny jeans and a short top if you're bottom-heavy / pear shaped / simply have thicker calves.

Tosca Blu at Stivaeletti

Knee-Length Boots

Nero Giardini at Stivaletti

Looks Best On - Everyone. BUT should be worn in different ways according to shape.
Looks Worst On - Short, pear-shaped / hourglass women wearing jeans tucked in to the boots and a short top.

Whilst some style magazines recommend that this style be avoided by shorter women, I think this is actually quite a universal style.

Having said that, for pear-shaped, shorter, women, I do prefer and recommend that this style is worn with a skirt or a dress. If skirts aren't your thing, if you wish to wear leggings / skinny jeans, wear them with a loose, long tunic top. If you're an hourglass shape adding a belt to a tunic / dress would be a great idea.

If you're more on the top heavy side (apple shaped / inverted triangle) your legs are most likely to be lean ,and mean so knee-high boots are an excellent style for you.

Over-the-Knee Boots

Kurt Geiger

Looks Best On - Tall, thin women.
Looks Worst On - Short, pear shaped women.

These boots were made for women with slim, long legs. If you're rather bottom heavy (pear-shaped), it's best to stay away from these as they will further enhance those curvy hips. This boot-style will also have a shortening effect so it is also more suited for taller women.

Mid - Calf Boots

UGG at Kurt Geiger

Looks Best On - Tall, thin women.
Looks Worst On - Shorter women with thick calves.

These are best for those that have thinner calves. Muscular or bigger calves will look bigger in this style, so unless that is what you're seeking, try to opt for something a bit shorter or longer.

Flat Riding Boots

Looks Best On - Tall, thin women.
Looks Worst On - Shorter women but truly, anyone can wear this style.

Flat, knee high riding boots can look good on everyone, they're the ultimate shoe for tall women especially those whose length is mainly within the leg department.

If you're short and perhaps somewhat pear shaped don't wear them with leggings and a tight top - instead opt for skinny jeans and a long baggy top to balance out your bottom half.

Another trick is to opt for a pair of sleek, minimal boots and wear bright colours / patterns on your upper half - this will drive the eyes upwards.

Shopping : Shoes at STIVALETTI

Yep it's another Shopping Post - but hey it's XMAS time ....'tis the season to be merry...and spend too much money. Today's Shopping Post focuses on shoes, in particular those found at Stivaletti. One of my favourite shoe brands is stocked at Stivaletti - Nero Giardini. I own three pairs of boots from this brand and all three are insanely comfortable and made of really high quality leather. Besides Nero Giardini, there are lots of other brands stocked in the various stores around Malta. To name a few of the brands there's  also the stunning Tosca Blu range, the Laura Biagiotti brand, Panama Jack, Dockers and interestingly enough Paris Hilton.

Here's some of my picks from the store located on Tower Road Sliema.....

Outfit Post : Different Shades of BLACK

Once you've gotten over the fact that my hair is straight, here's what I wore to the F&F launch party this week. It's funny how familiarity works, I've had my hair this straight quite a few times over the last year but it seems that after a summer of curls, everyone forgothttp://www.carolinefashionstyling.com/2014/12/outfit-post-different-shades-of-black.html. Basically, last Winter I got the Keratin Brazilian treatment applied and decided to go for it again this year - I find 'straighter' hair much easier to manage in the Winter months. To all those curl lovers (my hubby being one of them, ...they'll be back..and change is fun :) ).

Wearing all-black is not that 'normal' for me, in general, I'm quite a colourful person and tend to gravitate towards patterns, colours and all things bright. I enjoyed wearing this look though and I think I might just try total black again sometime soon.

Now these boots (Nero Giardini at Stivaletti) are a recent acquisition and I'm completely head-over-heels in love with them..the comfort is unparalleled, the quality of the leather is superb and I think the design is stunning - only problem - I decided to wear them on the one day in the year when it wouldn't stop raining...so my poor boots got wet on their first outing, I'm sure they cried big, plonky tears when I wasn't looking.

Outfit Post : MONOCHROME & a TIE

This is what I wore to PARASCANDALO Marco's show last Friday. The title of the collection was Seriously Black so I decided to go for monochrome - slightly in theme but not quite.

I guess the star of my outfit was most definitely the tie - this tie is by BIBSAB and you might recall me wearing another of these beautiful ties at London Fashion Week some months ago

When this company got in touch with me and asked to collaborate I immediately fell head over heels in love with their designs and answered them in like 5 minutes. They're just so beautiful and the quality is incredible, I literally spent all night telling everyone where it's from - I have one more to unveil :D

SOOO I finally got myself a backpack! It's part of the ALDO rise collection I had spoken about a few months ago and I really really like it .. it reminds me of my schooldays except that now I worry about whether people will take things out of it - maybe I'm growing old..

What do you think of my hairstyle by the ultra-talented Svetlana at Toni&Guy Malta Hilton? I really like the way it looks casual but done at the same time.

ALDO + CAROLINE'S FASHION STYLING

If you like Winter Clothes, living in Malta and waiting for Winter to arrive can be an absolute pain, at least, we can console ourselves with wearing Winter Shoes - we can withstand our feet feeling a little warmer in the name of fashion right

SO it's time to think about our Winter Shoe wardrobe and for a little bonus Caroline's Fashion Styling has teamed up with ALDO once again to offer you guys 30% off my top 5 picks in the store.

For this season ALDO are focusing on their customers finding their #perfectpair - whatever perfect may mean to you - so let me explain my #perfectpair choices a little bit. I've given you a little variety.

We've got the wonderful PIEDIM that were actually featured in Project Runway - they're absolutely gorgeous, I confess I do have a soft spot for booties however much the man in my life tells me he hates them..but these ones I find a bit special - the leather is so soft and that detail around the edge *drool*. I find these shoes the #perfectpair to wear with a knee length skirt or a nice pair of jeans for a night out.

Then there's the AREWIA which I bought myself at the start of the season before this collab simply because I love sneaker wedges, silver metallic always looks cool and they caught my eye. They are the perfect shoes for running around in every day, I pair them with skinny jeans, skirts, dresses - everything.

NONELLA interest me because they're navy blue and you just don't see a lot of riding boots in navy blue. These look great with skinny jeans or again a dress, especially a slightly bohemian one and a fedora hat.

And then there's BRICIEN, and now I falter simply because I'm not quite sure what to say, these little dainty / coloured / patterned / multi-textured / sexy / perfect shoes are quite frankly love at first sight. Can one walk in them ? Honestly..who the hell cares they're the perfect date night shoes.

And now for the men....my choice EXIR was based on different reasoning here - these shoes are perfect simply because - there's no need to tie your laces - they're simply slip on - perfectly lazy shoes.

Urban Travel : Just Out & About in a SKIRT & PINK

So I've been set a challenge by MEXX Malta - to create and showcase different outfits related to Urban Travel over the next 3 months  - by urban travel ...they don't mean necessarily travelling (as the silly photographer insisted on by putting a wheelie bag in the photo) but literally just everyday life. Now we all know I tend to enjoy on occasion slightly 'different' dressing ..so I've challenged myself to tone it down a little bit and keep these a more 'normal' & 'everyday' for want of better word.
So this SKIRT - talk about pretty, pretty, pretty and also very flattering especially for pears like me. I love it  - I've called this my 'out and about outfit',  one that can easily transition from day-to-night - switch boots to high heels / remove sweater & add a fur shrug / keep boots and switch sweater to leather jacket  - many, many options.

I think this exact outfit in all it's pink glory should be worn to

A girly tea party at which you sip tea out of china mugs, pink is definitely the colour of choice for such an event.

A birthday party but I'd probably switch to higher heels if it's an evening event

A nice long lunch - I'd need to get up off the chair a few times so the skirt can be seen properly.

A day out shopping, preferably for nice expensive items.
