Outfit Post : A SKIRT Goes to London Fashion Week

I never got round to posting the last outfit look from London Fashion Week - so here goes :0 I love this skirt so much I ended up wearing it again in Milan !! Not too much to write about here - this outfit was probably the least 'London' of the London ones and probably something more fitting for a country like Spain but I felt rally feminine wearing it and actually really, really enjoyed it. This bag is a special one - it was actually my resent birthday present fro m a group pf friends and I loveeee it - the quality is superb and it's original and has a vibe that just makes me smile.

London Fashion Week : Marko Mitanovski

It's not every day you attend a fashion show where the models are painted head-to-toe in black paint and dressed in latex and leather designs, some of them resembling architectural sculptures. Marko Mitanovski is a London-based Serbian designer , who, over the last few years, has been gaining quite a fair bit of fame. He has a passion for the colour black, he describes it as being his favourite colour. His designs are favoured by Lady Ga Ga which should come as no surprise given their innovative nature.

London Fashion Week, in general, is renowned for crazy and original designs but this was probably one of the more memorable and innovative ones I attended.

And for the finale - we've got a bit of white contrast ...

A Day at London Fashion Week

This past week, everyone I've met in Malta has asked me 'What Was Fashion Week Like?' Not 'What did you see?' or 'Which designer did you like most?' but 'What is it like?'. It's not really a question you can just answer on the spot. it requires a bit of thought and it's difficult to explain so I thought, the best way to answer this is to give you a breakdown of a day at London Fashion Week. I'm breaking down the very first day- the longest one of the lot.

As most of you know I went there with the hubby who is a fashion photographer so there's two of us to talk about :p

Early Morning

***On other days there'd be extra time needed to also write a blog post or two.
  • 6:00 a.m Alarm Clock Rings - Jump out of bed but to be fair I was already awake, too excited to sleep.
  • 6:10 a.m. Right, shower, couple of chocs for a sugar rush, hit the hubby a few times so he wakes up and lets get started.
  • 6:30 a.m Time to sort out invites - check dates of physical ones, check e-invites, check emails and see if there any I missed.
  • 7:00 a.m Outfit Planning Time - check list to see what was planned for today (Yes I pre-planned them), damn it those Kenzo trousers are a bit tight shouldn't have eaten chocs. Wonder if it'll be too warm in the tent, maybe I should forgo the Proskins base layer...have my new coat anyway, that should be warm enough..hmmmm Nero Giardini boots or Tosca Blu..- Tosca Blu it is.
  • 7.15 a.m Makeup Time - lets go for something a bit natural, my face is still recovering from an unfortunate episode of 'Caroline left a deep cleansing mask on for too long'.
  • 8:30 a.m Hair Time - Toni&Guy blowdry got a bit ruined in the rain but thank god I remembered to pack my LABELM straighteners....now just to find another plug in this hotel room.
  • 8:00 a.m All dressed and handbag packed with everything I need - time to sort out transport options using CityMapper
  • 8:15 a.m Breakfast Time
  • 8: 30 am. Leave Hotel - bleh it's way colder than I thought.
  • 9:00 ARRIVE AT SOMERSET HOUSE

Morning

  • 9:15 Picked up mine and hubby's accreditation passes and checked out press room - it's got pink this time and lots of sweets - yippee. Right, first show J. JS Lee starts at 9.30, better start queuing.
  • 9.30 Hmm still queuing, guess it's running late ..it's cold...ooh those girl's shoes are amazing..should take a snap.. but that would require removing gloves ..and it's cold.
  • 9.40 Still waiting, still cold
  • 9.45 Ok they're letting us in - wohoooo

London Fashion Week : B'Fast With LULU GUINNESS

Something really fun that I did at London Fashion Week is visit Lulu Guinness herself at the swanky Cafe Royal to view her new A/W 2015 Bag Collection. She's actually very much the type of person I imagined she would be - a fun personality, fun fashion style and a sense of humour. Her new bags are as delightful as always with some new fresh patterns and interesting twists.

The new pattern for the season is this wonderful artistic graphic pattern below. It's present on a variation of bags including mini bags and totes

Of course, the famous lips play a part in any collection of hers - I was really taken by the quality of the hard clutch in the first picture and this leather number below.

My personal absolute favourite style is this 'face' pattern below and I particularly love this backpack made of techno fabric. Below it are some lovely classical pieces that can carry you perfectly from morning to night.

This collection will hit stores sometime around September but you can check out her current collection on her website or here or here

Outfit & Burberry Roundup Post : London Fashion Week Day 4

Day 4 got a bit complicated when the invite to Burberry arrived. I always use the show as my line when people ask me what shows I'm attending - I quip, well I didn't get in to Burberry (it's always very strictly limited). In fact, I had booked my hair appointment at the time of the show, needless to say this got moved. The thing about fashion weeks is that invites to the shows generally arrive only a few days before so planning ahead is rather difficult.

I started off the day by getting my makeup done at the Maybelline Lounge followed by a cut and style at Toni & Guy. I decided to change the style of my hair and go for something a bit softer with more layers, Spring is soon here and I prefer this sort of style for the warmer days.

Now about this photo which you've already seen in my previous post - I'm standing next to a famous singer - Tallia Storm !! I found out after but at the time I thought she looked so cool with that hair.

Andddd here I met one my my favourite bloggers - The Glam and The Glitter

And time for some snaps around the lovely Kensington Gardens - and hey the sun was shining ! After watching the show I was quite happy I wore this skirt - suede fringed leather was a big part of the collection. I'd have preferred wearing higher heeled boots with this skirt but then I wouldn't have made it through the day and I had other shows, unlike the stars I didn't have a driver :).

Shoes is the hardest part about dressing for fashion week even just in terms of luggage weight and even though I haven't worn really high heels, right this minute whilst I'm typing this out my feet are sobbing and asking for a massage.

Outfit Details : Coat : MAX&Co. / Skirt : Rene Derhy / Scarf : Hermes / Boots : Nero Giardini at Stivaletti / Bag : Miu Miu / Earring : Pippa Toledo / Bow Tie : One from the Hubby's Collection

Now for some of my favourite looks from the collection - if you haven't watched the show you should watch it here - it's worth watching even if you're not into fashion, simply for the most amazing music by Claire Maguire.

The clothes, inspired by Durham quilting, presented were a mixture of suede, multicoloured prints, lots of fringes, swirls and florals and patchwork. The fabrics scream luxury, the coats unbelievably lux and they just make you want to lose yourself inside them. This particular coat in shearling intarsia featuring a floral design below is my favourite.

There was a lot of suede and this cape has so much texture and so much character, wearing it would ensure a wonderful day.

These Bohemian almost Mexican-influenced dresses are lovely with some beautiful detailing.

And because accessories are always one of Burberry's main things...here's the updated cashmere scarf and right below it one of my favourite bags

Now for some interesting news - parts of the collection can actually be shopped online right now until March 9, otherwise it will hit stores next Autumn.

I'd like to know when it's going to hit Malta ..what do you say Sarto (Michelle) - will these beauties be in store next September ?

Outfit Post : London Fashion Week : Day 3

I started off the day with breakfast at the fabulous Sketch and a braid  at the popup THE BRAID BAR store that was setup at Sketch  for London Fashion Week. The concept is really interesting, they have a braid menu and addons you can do like these pom poms and rings.

After breakfast it was back to the shows

London Fashion Week : Orla Kiely A/W 15

I've seen so many catwalk shows and presentation over the last few days - I've tried to instagram at least one pic of each of them but I haven't managed to write about each and every one yet. On Day 2 I went to what is still one of my faves - the Orla Kiely A/W 15 presentation. Orla Kiely in general has always been one of my favourites but her presentations are brilliant and super original. This year she created a whole library, I can only imagine how long the setup took. The wooden tables, old copies of vogue, lampshades - simply awesome.

The collection has a running theme of both 60s and 70s inspiration . The models were all decked out in grey stockings and styled with a mix of clashing colours, prints and patterns that just worked really well. The lemon yellow coat has my name all over it. The accessories and shoes (Clarks collaboration) are also great.

London Fashion Week : Street Style - Handbags

One of the first things I notice in an outfit is the handbag or handbag(s) as the case may be. There's something about a beautiful bag that can simply complete an outfit and make it stand apart. There's quite a variety of different styles of bags at London Fashion Week. I wasn't at New York but from the pics I saw, it was all about quirky-as-hell, original bags. Funnily enough even though London is the city with the most eclectic fashion it seems to transcend more in clothes rather than bags.

Here's a few street style snaps taken by Kurt Paris with bags worth of a photo or two..
