London Fashion Week : Marko Mitanovski

It's not every day you attend a fashion show where the models are painted head-to-toe in black paint and dressed in latex and leather designs, some of them resembling architectural sculptures. Marko Mitanovski is a London-based Serbian designer , who, over the last few years, has been gaining quite a fair bit of fame. He has a passion for the colour black, he describes it as being his favourite colour. His designs are favoured by Lady Ga Ga which should come as no surprise given their innovative nature.

London Fashion Week, in general, is renowned for crazy and original designs but this was probably one of the more memorable and innovative ones I attended.

And for the finale - we've got a bit of white contrast ...

Outfit Post : In Winter I Wear Capes & Hats

This cape that I got from Paris makes me feel brilliant..besides the fact that I love the style and its made from beautiful soft wool, it hides literally ALL my sins and trust me after Christmas there are a few too many of them...

I recently watched the Downton Abbey Christmas Special and if you did you must have noticed the hats - oh my god there were so many different, stunning ones - the milliner must have worked for months on end on those beauties. I bring up the subject of hats because as you may have realised I'm wearing a cloche hat and believe it or not, this is my first cloche hat. Yes, the girl who has way too many hats to count has never up till now worn or owned a proper cloche hat. Although I think I'm glad I waited, this way when I met this perfect Coccinelle one, it got the greeting it deserved and a nice big fat smile.

If you're wondering where I wore this outfit to, well it came out with me sale shopping around Sliema last Saturday. A rare Saturday off that I spent with my mother and thoroughly enjoyed. One of my 2015 resolutions is to find a way to have more time to relax and do other things besides work, at least in January it's proving to be somewhat doable...what about you guys have you kept your resolutions ?

Outfit Post : Different Shades of BLACK

Once you've gotten over the fact that my hair is straight, here's what I wore to the F&F launch party this week. It's funny how familiarity works, I've had my hair this straight quite a few times over the last year but it seems that after a summer of curls, everyone forgothttp://www.carolinefashionstyling.com/2014/12/outfit-post-different-shades-of-black.html. Basically, last Winter I got the Keratin Brazilian treatment applied and decided to go for it again this year - I find 'straighter' hair much easier to manage in the Winter months. To all those curl lovers (my hubby being one of them, ...they'll be back..and change is fun :) ).

Wearing all-black is not that 'normal' for me, in general, I'm quite a colourful person and tend to gravitate towards patterns, colours and all things bright. I enjoyed wearing this look though and I think I might just try total black again sometime soon.

Now these boots (Nero Giardini at Stivaletti) are a recent acquisition and I'm completely head-over-heels in love with them..the comfort is unparalleled, the quality of the leather is superb and I think the design is stunning - only problem - I decided to wear them on the one day in the year when it wouldn't stop raining...so my poor boots got wet on their first outing, I'm sure they cried big, plonky tears when I wasn't looking.

Urban Travel : Beanies and Festivities AHOY

It's beanie weather and I couldn't be happier - it's also festive season soon which means time to start sourcing those statement pieces. This high-waisted, black skirt from MEXX couldn't be more perfect.

The fit is amazing, the pattern eye catching and he colour..- well black is a 'non-colour' so it can match with sooo many different colours. I decided to mix it up a little and show how versatile it is - I paired it with a floral sheer top, a beanie, and this brilliant anorak / coat. This is a great outfit for when you want to be dressed up not too dressed up.

To make it a bit 'dressier' you could switch to a coat or cape, remove the beanie and add a pair of delicate heels.

Urban Travel : a Dog & a Tooth UNDERCOVER

Going undercover is one tough job and that's where a big oversized coat that you can bury yourself in comes in handy. A big scarf that can also hide half your face lends a hand and then of course there's the idea of a big hat, wear it with the brim down for extra cover.

Strictly speaking for going undercover, this brilliant dog-tooth / houndstooth coat from MEXX might be tad bit too eye catching, maybe it might be more ideal to wear for a night out to party or two. Photos by Kurt Paris

Events Post : PARASCANDALO Marco - Seriously Black

I had fun tonight, Marco's show and collection is edgy, fun, intelligent, witty and just plain cool. Black was the omnipresent colour as the title of the collection Seriously Black would imply. In an interview I conducted earlier this week, Marco described being inspired by his surroundings which are currently the local city of Birgu and it's quaint old but thriving vibe, his time spent in east london can also comes across in the overall look of his collection. There are many interesting pieces in this collection but his slogan sweaters are the standout items for me, but a mention must be given to the shirts, torn trousers and well actually everything.

I really liked the collection and will definitely be adding one of these sweaters to my wardrobe - a big thumbs up to Marco.

News Flash : Alexander Wang x H&M

 Alexander Wang x H&M
Photo Style.com

If over the last months you've managed to somehow escape the fashion pack's frenzy over the news that Alexander Wang and H&M collaboration, it's time to get in the know because it's here and it's brilliant. It's all about sport - hardcore exercise - gym, boxing, stunts, it's all about getting some exercise done. Last night's show featured Isabeli Fontana performing intriguing stunts, Joan Smalls on a snowboard and men throwing themselves around on trampolines.

Think all kinds of sport especially American ones, think boxing, think hockey, think American Football, think basketball.
This translates to gloves, helmets, neoprene sweats, utilitarian backpacks, hockey masks, fanny packs - yes you heard that one right - fanny packs are quite a hot item right now - and lots of BLACK.

Events Post : LFW : Jean Piere Braganza SS15

Probably the most packed show I attended in London was Jean Pierre Braganza - the amount of people who walked in was astonishing, I think every single person who received an invite came. From the pictures I guess it isn't hard to understand why (btw these are the official images their PR sent over, with all those people there and a 101 photographers clicking their flash simultaneously there was no way I was going to get a decent shot.) - his clothes are both astonishingly creative and astonishingly beautiful and elegant.

The collection is titled Architectonic and he describes it as “a contemplation of Deroit’s unique decay” - black was the predominant colour but with lots of white, taupe and grey. He presents this collection as a time and place where machines and nature can coexist peacefully. There are lots of machinery references with motorcycles printed on the silk fabrics and hints of chrome and gunmetal on the black satin fabric. The pieces are fierce and sharp, simultaneously giving off a sensual and androgynous feeling. The pieces feature very sharp contrasting tailoring, there are angular designs but at the same time the pieces curve in at the waist and show off hints off flesh making them seem daring, even a casually styled jumpsuit gives off a  sensual vibe.

I also loved the hair look by Toni & Guy that was slightly tousled but still sleek - I read on Glamour that apparently Jean-Pierre Braganza wanted the models' hair to look like they'd had sex on a Harley Davidson bike. The makeup by MAC also complimented the look perfectly.

Outfit Post : It's all about FUR

Day 4 at London Fashion Week SS15 - You night recall my mega exciting news that come September I was to be brand ambassador for Max&Co Malta, well, we decided to kick it off at London Fashion Week with this AMAZING faux fur coat - it's a beautiful mix of blue and black colours and the texture is absolutely brilliant, soft and smooth..a part of me was worried someone might think it's real and throw a bucket of red paint at me....

My outfit post shooting got a lucky break here, I had Kris Micallef to shoot my photos *yipeee*..coincidentally we were both working for the same magazine Noctis Magazine so  we spent soeme time together covering the shows and snapping some street style. We also visited the ME Hotel right outside Somerset House which has THE most amazing press room ever - check out the view.

We both loved this designer's outfit!

And for some much more mediocre detail shots (shot by me)

Beauty Post : KIKO Blue Mascara & PUPA Navy Chic Palette

In a previous post I mentioned how blue make up has taken over this summer - I know a lot of you have horrible images of that powder blue eye-shadow look with pink blush and pink lipstick from the 80's but this time round it's different, more subtle, more blended, and the idea is for there to be hints of blue rather than all-over-the-eye bright blue eye shadow. Also we're no longer pairing it with bright pink cheeks and lips.

PUPA Malta sent me the VAMP! COMPACT EYESHADOW PALETTE from the COLLECTION NAVY CHIC (colour code 003). You can see the different colours in the palette in the photo above.

I've been using this palette quite often, in the first photo above there are two different looks , in the leftmost photo it's white and dark blue colours blended with a bit of brown worn with blue mascara, in the rightmost photo it's the white and light blue worn with the blue eye liner from this collection that I reviewed here.

The quality of the eye shadow is great, doesn't crumble, is easy to blend and is long lasting (however I always wear it over an eye shadow base). I love the mix of colours, it makes it really easy to create either an intense dark blue colour or something more subtle and low key blended with brown.

Now onto the blue mascara, as mentioned here, coloured mascara is my thing of late and in this photo below you can see my sky blue mascara. I've also got green, berry, and purple - the problem with coloured mascaras generally is that he colour doesn't show up properly. This particular blue one is by KIKO and the pigment is awesome one of the most pigmented coloured mascara I've ever seen but unfortunately it is a bit clumpy so I don't rate it too highly and am on the lookout for a better brand with just as much pigment.

Beauty Post : PUPA Blue Eyeliner - NAVY CHIC

First of all let me start by saying..if you haven't realised already the current trend in makeup is blue, blue blue blue...this is NOT the horrible all over-eye-blue eye shadow look from the 80s but a nicer subtle mix of different shades of blue to make the yes pop...don't be scared try it.

One of the most recent products sent to me for review by the lovely people at PUPA Malta was the  VAMP! PROFESSIONAL LINER Eyeliner with Ultra-Fine Brush - WATERPROOF (colour 300 - light blue) from The Spring 2014 COLLECTION NAVY CHIC.

The usual things we look for in an eye pencil are
  • ease of application
  • colour pay-off
  • product doesn't run
  • smooth texture
  • ability to draw both thick and thin lines
Review

One coat was applied.
  • ease of application - I found it easy to apply, product glided on smoothly abut some people might have trouble managing the thin brush. 8/10
  • colour pay-off - Colour is a nice shade of blue, very flattering. - 9/10
  • product doesn't run - After a whole day was no running of product, product is waterproof - 10/10
  • smooth texture - The resulting finish is very smooth, no bumps in sight  - 10/10
  • ability to draw both thick and thin lines - It is only possible to draw thin to medium lines properly since the brush is quite thin - 7/10
Overall Score - 8.8/10

Another Winning Score for PUPA - I must say their make up seems to go from strength to strength, always impresses me.

Trends Post - Let's talk about Black & White

One of the major trends this spring/summer is shock horror shock monochrome black and white....no surprises there ..it's been a trend for the past few seasons now... but before we sigh and feel unimpressed, remember that since this year is the year of slogans, boxy shapes, and the return of funky 90's styling ...there are a whole new number of ways to wear b&w.

On the Street...

Off the Catwalk

And in the shops...one of this blog's sponsors Jennyfer has some interesting b&w offerings this season that really caught my eye last time I was in there...
