Shopping : Party-tastic at LULU

Some time ago I wrote a post about a shop I'd visited that's a little bit out of the normal shopping route - Lulu Boutique. I know that quite a few of you popped by and visited the shop and loved how quaint it is. A lot of you also sent me messages inquiring about 'formal or special' dresses for weddings and parties.

It's not really a shop I'd send people to that are looking for a special dress to wear to a wedding but there are some lovely dresses that are great for parties and can easily be dressed up with some accessories and made to look a bit more fabulous. I know a lot of you would prefer seeing some more photos before making the trip so I stopped by the store again and took a few more stock photos, focusing mainly on those dresses that are a bit more 'party-tastic'.
P.S - the all-cream/ white ones are NOT good for weddings :)

And here's a slideshow with many more party dress options

A couple of photos of the lovely place - because it needs to be snapped on each visit

And for those not interested in party dresses - I spotted some other items around the shop that are very interesting

Milan Fashion Week : Francesco Scognamilio

This is my first trip to Milan Fashion Week, arriving straight from London fashion week on an early morning flight after 5 days of very little sleep, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. Milan Fashion Week is different to London Fashion Week - there's no doubt about that. In London there's a sense of childish fun, from the way the people dress, to the attitude of the staff at Somerset House, there's a lot of happiness that fashion week is here and everyone is determined to make the most of it. Here the attitude is much more grim, much more business minded much more focused. Unlike London the average person interested in fashion does not participate, to be here you must be a buyer or press.

With that in mind, there is an overwhelming amount of things to discover, shows/presentations, this fashion week is packed so good time management is essential. Back to the matter at hand and on the first day I attended a really beautiful show Francesco Scognamiglio - I know I use the word beautiful too often but this really is the best way to describe this show & collection. The place (Palazzo Reale) is magnificent, models that walk like fairies and clothes that make you want to undress the models and crawl into them in their place.

My favourite pieces are the lilac, long silk dresses with leather three-dimensional roses embellished and layered on top. The feeling of this collection is purely feminine, very sleek and elegant - they evoke a passionate sentiment.

Caroline Hili for LabelC - A Touch of Prettiness

Yesterday, at Moda Malta, besides Charles & Ron and their new Pre Fall Collection, Label C also showcased a new collection by Caroline Hili. Caroline is a very talented designer and one of her greatest talents is in using clever tailoring touches to enhance a women's figure. This is very evident in these pieces - beautiful silk dresses, clever wrap-over fastenings, -there's a play on a woman's sexuality whilst always retaining elegance.
However, I must admit that in general, I think her brilliance is more evident in the designs she creates for her own label, probably because for her own collection she can let her imagination run wild but nonetheless, this is a very pretty, very sellable collection that should resonate with a lot of women. The blue dress in particular, is something I'd be pretty eager to wear.

Events : KAREN MILLEN IN MALTA

If you haven't heard, Karen Millen came to Malta or at least her store did with all its fantastic, brilliant clothes. The store is in Valletta, right next to Tico Tico a bit further down from Marks and Spencer. It has been brought over to Malta by Retail International Group and both they and Karen Millen themselves are super proud of this amazing location.

The clothes and accessories are wonderful, the quality, which is made using Italian materials, Italian skins and a huge attention to detail is pretty impressive. I hadn't seen this collection yet and I wasn't expecting it to be quite so amazing. In Malta, Karen Millen has always had quite a high reputation, especially as regards dresses but it's really a lot more than dresses, there are some truly lovely pieces - coats, shirts, sweaters, beaded tops, lovely bags and lots more. As regards pricing, the prices here are actually the same as in the UK which means we don't need to feel exploited in any way, as sometimes happens. The prices are in general great, for what you're getting, in terms of quality and design, the price points are really very decent.

The fashion bloggers got a chance to meet with Mike Shearwood the CEO of Karen Millen and he mentioned some interesting facts : Karen Millen never buy prints - their printed pieces are hand-drawn or hand-painted, exclusively for them. Most of their items run in very limited quantities and in Malta especially, around one in each size or even less is being brought over of each item. Karen Millen employs its own pattern cutters which is quite unusual and attention is made to ensure that clothes fit perfectly across all the different sizes.

New stock will be arriving each week and we actually have quite a large part of the collection - sometimes due to space limitations, in Malta we tend to have limited stocks of certain brands but this is  quite a large shop.

The occasion wear is impressive, hand beaded garments, intricate designs and apparently lots more will be on its way in the coming months.

Events Post : LFW : David Koma SS15

I get excited at all catwalk shows - I love viewing a designer's work, understanding the inspiration behind what they design and seeing how they interpret current trends and work their own magic into the formula.
Today at David Koma at London Fashion Week, I got even more excited than usual - I simply got excited because I want to BUY this collection ...one of my favourite things to wear are high waisted, short a-line skirts and this collection featured sooo many pretty ones, they're so stylish and so feminine and they played on different cuts and lengths some of them even giving off a tail-like effect. There were also some lovely dresses and some great tops. David Koma's collection is the perfect mixture of style, wearable fashion, sporty and easy but combined with perfect tailoring. A good point to mention is that this collection is not tailored just for model-like figures and proportions..this is a collection in which many women, of various shapes and sizes will find something to suit their bodies.

This collection won't be on sale until next summer but you can see the winter collection below...

Shopping Post : Skater Dresses on Sale

By popular request - after yesterday's post some more sale items with a focus on dresses - skater dresses to be precise, one of the hottest items we've had his year..and they suit so many different figure types, they're great for pear shaped girls, great for hourglass and can also be pulled off by apples sometimes (find one with a higher waistline that's right under the bust).

Now you may notice that I haven't listed the shops where these dresses are from - for kicks I'm leaving a bit of mystery on this one....you need to click on the individual images to see where they're from!

Happy Shopping!!

Shopping Post : Great DRESSES at Jane

As promised, here is the second instalment in the series - what's in the stores this new season? I visited Jane Norman and they have some great dresses, sometimes after the festive season, it can be hard to find great dresses, it seems that the ones in the shops are always too casual or too sparkly (left over from xmas) at Jane I was pleasantly surprised to find a great variety, there are some delicate, pretty options, some super sparkly ones, traditional bodycons, which I'm no longer too keen on but ppl keep loving, and lots of different colour options!

Check out some photos which I snapped of some of my fave spotted items :

Visit the sale on both in Sliema and Valletta! P.S. Follow Jane Norman on facebook -  Jane Norman. The store can be found in both Sliema and Valletta in Malta.
